I got word this week that I won my disability case. I thought I'd share because I know a lot of people on here are trying because they feel they cannot work and are told it's nearly impossible to get disability due to fibro. Fibro was the main reason too. I have some minor lung issues and depression caused by fibro as well. I cannot handle much medication either so that may have had a hand in things turning out positive. Just don't lose hope if you are trying to get it. Five doctors even the state doctor said I couldn't work which was really kind of disappointing if I'm honest. I should be happy that I got it, but I've been so sad about it. I guess because it makes the problems seem as monumental as they are. Before I could always tell myself I was close to getting my illness under control, but all these doctors saying otherwise startles me. At least it's some help though and can provide some hope to others trying to get it because of fibro. :-)

I am sure it gives you mixed feelings...when you recieve disability , are you able to work as you are able? I know i could not work full time again.

My symptoms can be a bit unpredictable and all over. I can be doing pretty well and then really bad suddenly and just as suddenly go back to okay. Fatigue is a huge problem though. I'm hoping to ask my doctor about chronic fatigue syndrome. I've been able to do some art work for friends and friends of friends who need it as long as I have enough time to get the project done which has been a life saver for my state of mind, but I don't think I could handle it on a regular basis at least not yet. I'm still determined to get to work full time. I excersize when I can and am still working closely with my doctors so all hope is not lost just yet.

Congratulations on winning your case.

But if, as you're hoping, you are able to work full-time again (and I hope that you are), won't you lose the disability payments?

I'm sure I'd feel the same way - relieved to get it, and yet sad that I needed to.

My hearing is in October. I hate having to wait for it and dread the thought of it.
I've already accepted not working, I just need everyone else to agree.

Acheybody if I feel able to work full time or even part time and do so I would lose my disability, healthcare, and all help. So it is really scary because I'll have to be 100% sure I can do it. It may not be entirely realistic,but I'm still shooting for that because I love what I did and I feel the need to go back to it.

Couchtater I can relate. I sooo dreaded that hearing, but it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. Just look at it as a chance to complain to people who really have to listen. The hearing will be recorded too so when you say an area hurts don't point to it like I did...haha just say the actual area. Also have examples in your mind ready of things and medications you have tried and have not worked or are working just not enough. What I wasn't prepared for was how long it took after the hearing to get my judgement. I assumed it would be that day and it may for some people, but I only heard three months after the hearing the actual decision. I was really angry and frustrated with that. It was so disappointing so please plan for that possibility it may be easier to handle if you know it could happen.

Tired- glad you were able to get your disability. I know how you feel because I know I can't returned back to work. It makes me sad.

Glad you were able to get disability; sorry you needed it. :( I think a person can earn up to around $900 a month and still receive disability, but don't quote me.

Couchtater, WOW, I can't believe we were waiting at the same time for our hearings and mine was last November. I hope yours goes well.

While I was at my hearing, the lawyer answered most of the questions. I did have to answer some questions, but I can't even tell you what those questions were. Also, the guy who went in before me told me that I wouldn't find out if I got disability that day. My lawyer said that is because, if someone has a mental disorder and was turned down, it might not end good. However, I was told the same day and expected to have to wait 3 months for my first check. However, I got my first check in December, just one month later. I was floored, and I felt blessed, too, because it was sure needed.

I would be careful about doing any work while on disability. I hear they frown on working and you make that effort to stay right under the amount allowed. It seem that you could work some years ago, but I think things are changing.

Congratulations on winning your case. This is of particular interest to me as my wife is considering Disability also. She currently works between 32 and 42 hours a week and between the many varied symptoms and the Fibro fog, she is really hurting. Good Luck with your Fibromyalgia.

Congratulations! I thought it was that you couldn't work if you were disabled. I thought it was just for retired that could not make over a certain amount .
