Severe - SEVERE Muscle Stiffness

I have all the usual body wide fibro pain but I don’t see much on severe muscle stiffness – and it is not just in the mornings. If I ride in a car for 20 minutes I get out all bent over like a 90 year old and can hardly walk.

Prior to this I was extremely athletic and could hike all day with a 40 pound pack, did day long bike trips and did major home remolding 14 hour days. Now I am so stiff I can hardly move an inch.....and I hurt!!

Anyone else this stiff 24/7

Afraid so..i take an anti inflammatory, any time they have tried to change it for something else...i am so stiff i can barely move...and i mean that literally..once i was out of town and went into stiffness so severe..the dr had to call something in so i could get home...

With anti inflammatory and moist heat, and light exercise i can keep going, but it takes work...

Gentle stretching through out the day helps. I am with you on the car rides. I have to drive an hour to see two of my docs and I can barely move when I get there. I find myself standing a lot.

I didn't realize an anti inflammatory could help. I take Celebrex for my arthritis pain. I think it is anti inflammatory, but not sure. Maybe an NSAID... I will have to look it up. I cant' take it daily, it bothers my stomach, but maybe once a week or so. If that...

Karen, Celebrex is a NSAID. Those initials stand for non steroidal anti inflammatory drug so, yes, all NSAID's are anti inflammatories.

Mystic, along with keeping moving, I have found a muscle relaxer has helped me a lot. Also, have you tried magnesium malate? You get bad cramping and pain in muscles if you are deficient in magnesium. There is a link in Fibro 101 a out magnesium malate and how it works in the body.

If you are a passenger in a car, there are some good stretching exercises in Fibro 101 that can be do e sitting down.

I've found that acupuncture works the best on muscle stiffness. The muscles in my thighs were so stiff I had problems walking. They were so hard they felt like plastic when you touched them. After a few months of treatments they gradually loosened up and I only have to go in every couple of months or so for treatments.

Loved acupuncture , still miss going..i do use acupressure at home..i have an acupen to work with at home.

If i only had the time and energy i would go for more acupuncture and try to find a massage therapist who understands trigger points.

Ps on the stiffness...had it a lot worse with low d levels..

I mention the low vit d levels every other post because i am still working on mine..and it made fibro so much worse.

I lock up if I have to be still very long. This evening after waking up my left leg was so stiff I could barely walk.

Ljm, Where did you get the acupuncture pen? I am curious about this. I had it for awhile, but it didn't seem to help at that time. I would like to try again. I find that the trigger point book helps me a lot. I think that acupuncture would help too.

I get really stiff from not moving, so I try to move a lot.
