infection antibiotic and fibro

I'm believing in the infection theory!!! I have had Fibro for 15-20 yrs ....so much pain!!!...awful inflammation.... tired, don't want to do anything, i've done everything to try and help myself....cortisone, ablations, chiro, PT, acupuncture, cymbalta, neurontin, anti imflammatories....etc.,,, about a yr ago i noticed I got a rash on my face (not acne) what I believe NOW was infection? I then got really sick...they said diverticulitis?? I was put on flagyl (high antibiotic) and cipro...I just got really sick again and they found out I had C-DIF and put me on Flagyl AGAIN....I ended up with a gallbladder attack with no gallstones - gallbladder infection?? after I've finished my flagyl ~~my rash of 8 months started to go away~~~ I haven't had fibro pain and I've had alot of energy for the last 10 days....thoughts? since I stopped taking the flagyl Aug 5 (which tastes disgusting and makes you feel kinda crappy while on it) ~~~ today is Sept 6 and I'm getting the rash back on my face and fibro pain is starting to hurt again :(

I have read it is possible to carry infection for years that portrays as fibro??

I have been able to go to the gym, do dishes, wash carpets, mow the lawn ( even start the lawn mower)

Totally impossible in the past

Also, BIG problem I can't find any DR that will listen to me???

They all just want the $$ from ins, copays and to prescribe you full of meds

Hi, Beth, and welcome! I totally agree with Joy. There are other illnesses that have many of the same symptoms as fibro but are treated differently...illnesses such as lupus and Lyme disease. So you need to get these ruled out. Also fibro isn't an inflammatory illness. We have members with no inflammation at all going on but yet they have fibro. I do have inflammation but I also have other illnesses that cause inflammation. So you might have fibro and another illness that is inflammatory. Joy has fibro and lupus.

I took Flagyl several times for fistulas with Crohn's disease and didn't have these problems. Plus I had fibro for several years before I was ever given the Flagyl.

Be sure to read Fibro 101...the first thread on the forum. There are links to good info about fibro and you will learn a lot there. When you first open Fibro 101 there is an interview with Dr. Daniel Clauw and he is describing what they think is causing our problems. I think you will find this interesting. All of Fibro 101 is good so do read it.

I, too, had C. Diff. I ended up with a Colitis with rectal bleeding. A Gastroenterologist cleaned up the infection but also gave a prescription for Flagyl and Cipro. He said I could wait a bit before filling the Prescription. Thought what he cleaned up might be enough. I was still bleeding the next day. I told the Doctor I would fill the prescription. Oddly, I had taken Cipro before for Travellers diarrhea. Antibiotics can set the stage for C. Diff. They clear out good and bad bacteria. You must replace the good bacteria. Yogurt or a good probiotic helps. I now know, I didn't then. Where did I get C. Diff. Possibly at a Hospital or a Nursing Home. Your infection would have caused inflammation.

I found these meds very scary. I could feel them moving through my body. I could not sleep. My body flushed out much infection when the meds began to work. It was after using these meds that I began to get nerve problems. It is possible that one or the other med contributed to my nerve damage.

I have a lot of places that have caused pain. They don't flare up all at the same time but headaches are chronic and daily.

I am sure that once your body is rid of infection then you can begin to heal and be a lot less fatigued. It took years for my stomach to heal.

The jury is still out for me as to whether my infection played a role with my Fibromyalgia. For some of us there is a common denominator of health challenges we have faced.
