Hi there,
I am new to the forum. Very sick. Fibromyalgia/chronic pain/chemical sensitivities/constant stomach pain

I think my illness is the result of long-term antibiotic use for acne(17+ years). Was told be a NP it was potential lyme with all the infection in my body. Heard that many things (including long-term antibiotic use and long term use of birth control) can mimic lyme.

Anyone have a similar story?

Hi. Hopeful, and welcome! I have never heard of long term antibiotic use causing symptoms that mimic Lyme disease. I googled it and all it says is they use long term antibiotic use to help with Lyme.

Are you getting progressively worse? If so, you very well could have Lyme disease. Fibro is not considered a progressive illness. We have had members misdiagnosed with fibro when they really had Lyme. We also have had members misdiagnosed with Lyme when they really had fibro! Their symptoms can be so similar. But if you are getting worse and worse. Do get a second opinion from a good board certified rheumatologist.

We have a thread called Fibro 101 and it's found at the top of the forum. There are good links about fibro and reading this might help you, too.

I wish I could be more helpful but maybe other members will have heard of this happening. Do let us know what you find out because we do care about you. Hope to hear more from you soon.

I appear to be getting progressively worse, with very odd symptoms. Can not tolerate any meds and even supplements can throw me over

We do get very odd symptoms with fibro so that's why I suggested you read Fibro 101 and see if this sounds like you. Good starting links would be Symptoms and A Thorough Explanation of Fibromyalgia.

Fibro waxes and wanes so you can sometimes feel like you are getting worse and then you start feeling a little better.

I know with Lyme, they give long term antibiotic treatment. So, if you have been on antibiotics right along, it makes me wonder if it is Lyme...unless they use specific antibiotics for it and they aren't the ones you have been taking for years. Does this make sense to you?

I still suggest you get a second opinion. You do want to be sure.

We do get progressively worse if we are flaring. But when i thought last winter it was my fibro getting so much worse..it actually was my vit d levels were way too low...

Do you mind sharing what are the very odd symptoms? With most of us there are so many to choose from..

Most of us also have more than 1 issue, ..so the cross symptoms can get pretty confusing..

I am sure that long term antibiotics were tough on your body.. It is meant as a short term treatment for the occasional infection...

Now we are even warned not to use the hand sanitizers all the time.

I have the chemical sensitivities also with my fibro, as does my daughter...the strangest things , we can react to as tho poisoned..

Not everyone with fibro seems to have that..i have heard there are many different forms of fibro. I have friends who have it more as restless leg syndrome, mine is much more pain.

Keep searching for your answers whatever you do.

This has never been confirmed medically, but here goes...

I was dxed with Fibro in 2003/4. In 2009, I contracted MRSA, and was given three weeks or so of the high-test antibiotics, both intravenously and in pill form. Since then, my fibro symptoms have been worse (by my own perception). Also, I end up getting infections more easily, and therefore on antibiotics more often.

Of course, lots more stress in 2009, but still.

I would also add that sometimes what we see as cause/effect is not accurate. I mean, ultimately the source of the problems is not as important as learning to manage them, at least at this place and time.

LJM -- my s/x have been chemical sensitivities, vulvodynia, intolerance to minor trauma, chronic pain that moves around, 24/7 stomach pain, low immune system

I agree with you Myself with cause/effect. although finding the source can prove helpful such that one can avoid a potential source that could cause more issues. I for one, will be very cautious with antibiotics given the great harm it has caused me.
