Bad Head, Neck, and Back Pain

ok, i have been through so much for the last 3 years. it started when i hurt my back, then i went to get out of bed and couldnt straighten up... well i just forced myself up and let me tell ya it hurt really bad. anyways, thats where it started and it has got worse as time has gone by. basicly i ache all over... my legs, lower back, mid back, and upper back. between my shoulder blades, kidney area,abdominal and left and right chest and in between. iv been to several different doctors and had test after test after test. no one knows. then one day i go see a rheumatoligist and he pulls up a stool and within 3 minutes... no test or nothing has it ALL FIGURED OUT!!! he says i have fibromyalgia... he gives my cymbalta and nothing! then i get lyrica and nothing! duiring all this time the last year and a half my neck has stayed guitar string tight 90% of the time and i keep a headache most of the time. when its not hurting its like its on st/by and my head is and has been extreamly sore to the touch all over for the last year and a half. as of sept 25th of this year now when i bend over for any reason, cough or put any pressure at all on my head i get very sharp pains... is that fibro also??? i woke up this morning at 12 minutes after midnight and had the worst chills iv ever had and then got really bad heart burn then became sweaty. is it possible to be missdiagnosed with fibro? i live in a small town compared to big cities but my doctor has me going to the baylor diagnostic association in dallas. iv heard they are rated very high and hope i can find out what is going on. im so tired of hurting.

I just recently got diagnosed maybe a month or 2 ago after months of no answers, I to am still trying to figure everything out as I get new pains all the time. I'm not sure how much help I can be but I just wanted to say I experience alot of pain in my neck, I constantly feel like I need to cough even though it's dry, I get this full feeling in my neck that drives me insane......I don't really get the headaches but my neck is always bothering me occasionally I get these sudden sharp pains at the top of my head there quick and they go away bit it's real uneasy feeling and I got so scared my dr did a MRI of my head/neck well it was completely normal so he brushed it off as a fibro pain. I've recently been getting sharp pains on my mouth and feels kina like a cavity but I have also been to the dentist and given the all clear there so again I'm not sure eother. But hopefully some of that helps a little letting you know your not alone.

IT MEENS A LOT TO ME FOR THE REPLYS, THANK YALL SO MUCH. I AGREE THAT THERE MAY BE SOMETHING ELSE GOING ON. IM NOT SAYING I CANT GET FIBRO BUT ITS JUST A FEELING... I KNOW THE ACHING IN MY LEGS IS A TOUGH ONE. I OFTEN TAKE HOT SHOWERS AND FOCUS THE HOT WATER ON MY LEGS AND THAT HELPS A LIL. I ALSO WILL SIT IN THE SHOWER AND LET THE WATER POUR OVER MY HEAD AND NECK. ITS A RELIEF THAT DONT LAST LONG BUT ITS STILL SOME RELIEF. THE OTHER BRIGHT SIDE IS IM SUPER CLEAN FROM ALL THE SHOWERS. HA HA. I WILL SAY THAT THE SHARP PAINS I GET FROM BENDING DOWN OR GETTING UP ARE A STRONG CONCERN... I HEARD DR OZ SAY THAT ONCE ON TV. I BET I POP MY NECK 50 TIMES A DAY OR MORE AND THEN I TURN MY HEAD I CAN FEEL IT PULL FROM BETWEEN MY SHOULDERS. THEY SAY THAT BAYLOR MEDICAL DIAGNOSTIC IN DALLAS IS ONE OF THE BEST... I SURE HOPE SO, GOD BLESS EACH OF YOU OK...

yes mam i do, actually i have 2 heating pads, a back massager, neck massager, ice packs, all kinds of stuff you rub on ya... im loaded up on that stuff. myself i feel strongly that all that is wrong is being caused by something else not fibro. i could be wrong but i dont think i am. what has really got me frustrated is the medical field... so far its been a joke! i wish i had a job where i could charge ya thousands of dollars to tell ya I DONT KNOW! one more thing that i think is related to all this that drives me bonkers is i have a itch in my left ear only that will not go away. iv been to the EN&T dr 5 times and he says there is nothing in there... he did say whatever it is it is causing my left ear not to produce wax in my left ear which causes it to itch.

Hi honey, I have had Fibro for 30 years and you sure sound as if you have it to me. There are some excellent books out there that will fill you in on the sensible causes ( all in your head guys to be avoided!! Its not!!) I do not know if I can name a book on here all I can say is that Ginervra Liptan M.D. is excellent with fibro as she has it herself and understands it. She is medical director of the Frida Centre for Fibromyalgia. Look her up it will give you info and advice.
Once you learn to manage your particular symptoms well things will improve but then just as you think oh I am doing well the fibro sky rockets again...usually cos you will have done too much. Pacing is important, get some warm water therapy in there too...gentle swim relax in Jacuzzi....always support that neck. I use a woggle ( long sponge snake float) for pool therapy ( if I call it swimming then everyone thinks I am doing lengths lol ) 10 to 15 mins most in the pool, a neck collar when travelling long ways and a special pillow that supports your head in the right position. Look online..it is all there. Much better than when I was diagnosed when most docs said it is all in your head ...it is NOT. Take care

Hi, Lookingfor help, and welcome! I'm so sorry I'm late in responding but I have out of town guest right now and am having problems finding time to respond.

Well, I'm not sure this is all fibro. It could be but I had a bad experience with my back and legs several years ago and, for the longest time blamed it in fibro. The pain was horrendous and it affected my whole back, hips and legs. I had raw nerve pain running down my legs and could hardly lift them to take a step. I needed two canes to walk. Since I was getting worse and fibro isn't a progressive illness, I headed to a board certified rheumatologist. He rand me through a myriad of tests, x-rays, and two MRI's and I was diagnosed with ankylosing spondylitis (an arthritis of the spine) and sacroiliitis. I was put on proper medication and I'm doing great now! Yes, I have fibro, too.

Not everything is caused by fibro so I'm reallym glad you are going to see a doctor at Baylor University. It's an excellent school! My dentist graduated from there and he is tops.

You might try massaging your neck. Your head problems probably stem from your neck. You have trigger points along the sides of your neck. You will feel them because they are tender. Press on them as hard as you can and then massage them. Do this periodically through the day. Also, feel at the base of your skull to see if you find two knots on each side where your spine meets your skull. Do the same thing as above because these are trigger points, too. Also massage your skull. It's covered with muscles. I have don't this trigger point therapy on myself and have even cured a frozen shoulder doing this. I bought The Trigger Point Therapy Workbook on Amazon and it tells you all about this and shows you where to find the trigger points for the type of pain you are having. I learned this technique from my massage therapist who has a lot of education in massaging fibro and myofacial pain syndrome clients.

Be sure to read Fibro 101...the first thread on the forum. There are links with good info about fibro and you will learn a lot there.

I think some of us were posting recently and the itching in the ear was pretty common on that post....i do get that, in just the right ear at times...and a really strange itching behind the ears.itching can be a fibro thing.

Its good for you to question tho and have them rule other things out.

Hope you get an awesome doc at baylor!

I do not know about that pain when leaning down though? So better to get checked out.

I have many of the same symptoms you describe. It is good that you are seeking help from the Medical Profession.

I have Osteoarthritis in my neck, neck to collarbone, collarbone to shoulder blade, wrists (have carpal tunnel too), lower back, knees and articulations noted in my feet. For me the most severe pain is my neck and the chronic headaches. I do have jaw pain. I recently asked one of my Health Care providers about the jaw pain, should I see anyone else. She thinks that my Dentist and another Dental Specialist I saw are likely doing enough. Wretched jaw pain - top and bottom.

My lower back has been going out on me. I can't stand up straight. Between the bad neck and lower back out - I'm like a sandwich with no bread. I have now managed to get it my lower back functioning twice now with ice, heat, gently exercise that I do in bed, pain creams. I also get help from a Registered Massage Therapist. At first I would get occasional pain when I need to crouch down. My RMT said there is likely not enough space with the discs.

In reading so many useful posts I am leaning towards the Fibro causing a whole lot of the pain but Osteoarthritis is no walk in the park either. I can walk with pain. I do go to a Physiotherapy in a heated pool. I went to an Assessment with a Physiotherapist last week. He said my head is so tight. I know. He tried to massage and then they gave me some heat. Fifteen minutes after treatment one hand was going numb and another was tingling.

Do hope the Health Professionals check out everything and better still provide you with a diagnosis.
