Sunny -
I've been having some crummy neck pain lately. I'm lousy with tender/trigger points (haven't finished reading the book ;) ). I did find a couple of things that are helping even though they are not completely ridding me of the pain.
Occasionally during the day I will roll up a heating pad I have. It has a lot of air in it so it doesn't bunch very much, but the curved item under the back of my neck that is heated helps a bit to loosen the muscles. Someone on the forums mentioned a bed buddy. It's a roll with some sort of seeds or beans inside. You can put it in the microwave and do the same thing (probably safer).
The other thing I found is that Sunbeam makes a fleece covered heating pad that is designed for the neck. They sell them at Walgreens and on Amazon. It's cut so that it drapes over your shoulders and part of it goes up the back of your neck. I tend to go for blasting hot, but it has 4 temperature settings so that you can set it to your comfort level.
These won't cure, but they may help relax your neck until you can find a good way to fix it. Sometimes my neck will fix itself after being on the heat - I think because the muscles relax.
Good luck.
