I just found this forum while searching one more time about this mess. Many years ago, I ate some algia trying to get fiber. Well, it turned into fibromyalgia. I have to joke to keep from going any crazier than I already am from this stuff.

Okay, really, I am a man (yes, some of us have it too), and have had fibro for many years but only diagnosed three years ago. A nurse practitioner put me on cymbalta (generic) three years ago. She was a bit younger, but me doc who is about 55 maybe, seems to be bit skeptical about it.

Anyway, thanks for this forum. Good to know I'm not alone (not that I'm glad y'all suffer too) in trying to cope.

Hi welcome,

I believe i have read that 20% of diagnosed cases are men...

I know two men who have every symptom, but as far as i know have not been diagnosed by a dr..i feel like they suffer more than they need to because of not being diagnosed and treated for this disease..of course they would still suffer pain and fatigue but way less with good treatment or even good self help measures.

So in a strange was you are blessed to know you have it..so you can move forward.

I agree - laughter is the best thing we've got a lot of the time. I've been particularly plagued by the FOG lately....a few minutes ago I was upstairs with my reacher, going back and forth between 3 little rooms. When I was getting ready to go downstairs, I couldn't find it (how I can lose it so many times a day is beyond me.) I told my husband my reacher decided to take a little vacation - because that's what it seems like - and it'll come back when it's good and ready. He just chuckled; he's used to me.

Anyway.... :)

Have you had a chance to look at our first thread, "Fibro 101"? It's a really great one for information of all kinds. Well worth your time.

Is the Cymbalta working for you? That's one I haven't tried.

It is great to know you're not alone in this, isn't it? I was so happy when I found this forum. I hope you'll keep posting, because we really do care.

Thanks a lot! The cymbalta surely helps. A year ago, I ran out for a week - whew - that was a rough week! LJ, you're right about just knowing wha' ye have (as I get older, I'm talking like me Irish grandmother) helping. I suffered for about 35 years not having a clue wha' was wrong. I even thought it was allergies for a few years! Nope, not allergy, fibro mess. I took sinutabs for many years! Of course it didn't help, except a doctor once told me it was showing in me liver, don't take them (acetametaphine) anymore.

I am so thankful for this forum! People who actually can understand this mess. The day I found it was one of wha' I call one of my "bad" days. And, like some have said, yucky weather seems to make it worse sometimes. So far, today is better...

Glad to read that Cymbalta is helping you. I, too, came off Tylenol, due to rebound headaches. Of course meds can cause them also. Yes, you do have to be careful with Tylenol. A person I know lost her Sister due to septic shock. She was taking Tylenol 3s. It might have contributed to the septic shock.

Glad you're here. (You know what I mean). Hopefully you stick around and we get to know you. Guys just kinda Pop in and out around here, but that's cool cause these ladies are amazing and so very helpful. I really haven't seen a lot of difference of symptoms if any from their's to mine , very similar but some of their situations. ..I just sit back and stay clear of their painful bra strap discussions. (Pretty sure a man invented the bra) sorry ladies I can NOT be held accountable for his actions.

Welcome!!! I too am a newbie. I was diagnosed years ago, but didn't want to accept that. Came up with a million excuses of why it couldn't be fibro. Now I have came to conclusion that my doctor was right. Years ago she gave me a lyrica script that I never tried. Wednesday she gave me 30mg cymbalta that I still haven't tried. I don't take meds easily. I kind of panic till I know I didn't have a reaction. To them. Welcome!!!!!

Thanks again! Christmas day, I caught flu! Took shot, but didn't work. Imagine, aching flu body on top of aching fibro body. Well, don't imagine too much, ye don't want to.
