How Do You Handle The Itching?? UGH!!

I swear some days I feel like I have fleas! What in the world is up with the itchy feelings? My scalp and face are the worst but my back, legs and shoulders aren't far behind. When that's not enough my body adds "burning" in my hands and feet, just for kicks I guess! I'm losing my mind!!

The itching could be from UV Ray exposure. Many of us are sensitive to them. I'm very sensitive to them. I have to wear special clothing with protection in it. Some people can get by with sunscreen.

These things emit UV rays:
Sunlight (It comes through glass too)
Fluorescent lighting
CF bulbs
tanning beds
halogen bulbs

I use only LED bulbs to light my house. I get my clothes from coolibar.Com. I wear hats with large brims and gloves when I go outside.
if I don't protect myself I feel terrible and itch like there's no tomorrow.

Depending on the meds you take they can make you itch also.

Funny topic for me tonight...only the tops of my toes are itching like crazy..topical pain relievers stop the itch..

So my pain erase will come back out...yes some meds cause that , but i think it can also be from overactive nerves...

Ps pain erase is great on mosquito bites too and they love me..

Dry skin, especially this time of year, can make me very itchy. I have to pretty much double up on moisturizers during the winter. As others said, meds can definitely cause this as well. For me, tramadol is evil for causing me to feel like my skin is crawling away.

I have been using a shea oil scrub on my body in the shower to moisturize my dry winter skin and do a bit of "itch relief" at the same time. I do take tramadol several nights a week usually, for the pain…did not realize that might be making me itch…

A good detox trick "lymies" use:

Dry body brushing (soft bristle with long handle) in the tub before you turn the water on.

Yep, your skin is the largest organ and brushing off those dead cells makes many people less itchy in a few weeks.

thyroid levels effect skin too.

Is it part of Fibro to have a heat rash? I was working in the yard and it was warm and it's the second time I've ended up with a heat rash. Never had one before. Is this the new norm?

I get the most severe itch on the palms of my hands. Sometimes I want to scrape at them to make it stop. I think I will try astroman's suggestion tomorrow before I shower...

I got a weird rash last year, come to think of it. I thought I had mono because my daughter had it and I got a rash, swollen glands and a couple of other things. I ended up in the hospital because the Urgent Care doctor was an idiot. It took weeks more of itching before I finally got a steroid cream from my doc that worked quickly. I barely used any and just treat it with a bit of that ointment and some hemp cream as I go. I don't remember it much because it's in the "solved" category in my brain.

I do notice a ton more dead skin cells. My daughter and I did pedicures together and when we were soaking, my feet got itchy and I scrubbed them raw. This was 6 weeks ago and they are still healing. The weird part is that it felt good at the time - like an itch that needed to be scratched. I was in a lot of pain that day, so the itching probably got pushed to the back of my notice.

Based on Astroman's suggestion, could it be a lot more dead skin cells for us?

I am sympathetic to your plight. I too suffer greatly from an intense itching. I've tried (literally) EVERYTHING to stop the crazy itching. Here are my personal recommendations:

*Vinegar: Sounds rediculous, but helps IMMENSELY! I absorb some UNFILTLTETED (that's important for future, but not imperative for first try) apple cider vinegar onto cotton balls, and directly dab the vinegar all over the itchy places, or if I'm itchy all over, I'll take a bath with 2 cups of vinegar.(scrub scalp with it directly as a shampoo and rinse.) The vinegar may sting if you're like me and break skin from scratching. Suck it up and ignore the sting. (I've learned the stinging HELPS relieve itching as well.) Apple cider vinegar (ACV) is a natural antiseptic, so don't worry. You may not care for the smell, but it is my number one recommendation.

*Coconut oil: as moisturizer.

*Aloe Vera: (even in gel format) as moisturizer and to help heal the skin. This helps a lot!

*Ice packs: for when you are going out of your mind with the itching. Helps to numb the intensity and cool the skin. This helps a lot!

*Benzocane topical cream. (I buy "Chiggerex" for $2.00 at WalMart.)It's no' a "cure all" but it does helpIt sometimes helps, simetimes doesn't, but ANY relief is better than NO relief!

Lorazapapm: for anxiety. Sometimes, even when I exhibit no other symptoms of panic attack. I find the lorazapam calms my nerves.

I've had to work out the "best recipie" for best results. I'll apply the vinegar first. Then the benzocane cream. I'll ice pack until numb, and then apply coconut oil or aloe. I also find that the more you can moisturize with aloe, the better.

I hope any or all of these methods help you find the relief you deserve! ^.^

if I have a spot that is driving me crazy, I will put a little Cortaid (cortisone cream) on the spot and that helps, too.

I itch like nobody's business when I get out of the shower -- regardless of product or towel detergent. I thought it was just me!

I too think it's nerves waking up and asking what the heck is happening.
