Hello All,

Just a little venting.  I've been having pain in my hips for many years now and went in for a cortozone shot on Thursday.  When I got there, I was made to wait for over an hour before I saw a doc at all.  The doc that came in said that he wants more tests done before the shot so was going to contact my ortho doc to set up an MRI.  I had already suffered some anxiety, took a sick day off and arranged for a ride home.  It seems funny that the doc couldn't have read my chart before I got there and called the whole thing off.  #()$* it.  :-)

That all being said, how much of my back/hip pain do you think is being caused by fibro?  I feel like I've been spinning my wheels here lately as far as my treatment is concerned.  I guess thats just the way of things.

I'm sorry you had to deal with the waiting, anxiety, and uncertainty. Doctor's offices can be so frustrating. I agree, it would have been nice to have been told you needed an MRI before you went. I think sometimes doctors don't realize all that is involved in getting someone to an appointment, including taking a sick day from work.

Having said that, I do see the wisdom of having an MRI done. I've had ruptured/herniated discs, piriformis sydrome, sacroiliitis, spinal stenosis, and spinal arthritis, all of which have caused back/hip pain throughout my life. Without diagnostic testing, it would have been difficult to determine what the actual problem was and what was the best treatment. So, I guess I can see the necessity of the test, but the way it was handled for you definitely could have been improved.

As far as how much is caused by fibro, that's hard to say. With an MRI, at least you can see if there is something else going on, something that may benefit from a different treatment.

I hope you do find out what is causing your pain and that your next doctor's visit is handled a little more compassionately.

You can have a fair amount of hip and back pain with fibro..however its not a bad idea to have them check and rule out other issues also..

Have you tried any physical therapies? Stretches can help with pain there, also trigger point therapy

Sounds like a frustrating day , and better communication would be nice...
