Hi,
I am new to the forum and I must say I am extremely happy to have found it. It has a wealth of information, coming from the right people!
And here is my question....I was in excruciating pain (classic in my neck, shoulders, arms, etc.) and looking for a neurosurgeon to perform an operation for my c5-7 discs. I was hesitant to proceed with the operation because the two neurosurgeons I first visited would only commit to saying "the operation will help with the pain on the left arm but not the rest of your pain". Well, lo and behold the third neurosurgeon recommended against it and referred me to a rheumatologist.
He formally diagnosed me with fibromyalgia and recommended against the operation. His reasoning was that the recovery time from the operation would be longer than someone without fibro and that I would probably be out of work from 6 months to 1 year and maybe more pain than before! Well, here I am, two years later and I can hardly move my left arm, have lost a lot of range and I am wondering, how many fibromyalgia patients have had cervical surgery. And still in a LOT of pain from the fibromyalgia as well. Still work FULL time because cannot afford not to but do not know until when I will be able to do it....
