Hi, Mary, and welcome! Couchtater gave some good insight into Fibro. We are all so different but you will get ideas on this forum of things to try to help you. Once you get the pain under control you can live a full and enjoyable life in spite of this illness. One thing to remember though is that Fibro is not a progressive illness. My out shouldn't get worse and worse. Mid this is happening to you, you might want to get a second opinion. Many of us have Fibro and some other illnesses too. Have other illnesses that have many of the same symptoms as Fibro been ruled out...things like lupus and Lyme disease? It's important because these illnesses have different treatments than Fibro for the most part.
I found this out the hard way a few years ago. My back pain was getting worse and worse and I was getting raw nerve pain down my legs and needed two canes to walk. I headed to a rheumatologist and found out I not only had Fibro but also ankylosing spondylitis and sacroiliitis. I was put on medication and am now doing great and walk great again.
I use ibuprofen with food, Tylenol, magnesium malate, vitamin D3, and a prescription muscle relaxer called Robaxin that has made a significant difference in my pain. I take less than half of what was prescribed so I don't get any side effects. I also walk or swim daily as a form of gentle exercise and I pace myself when doing things. All of the above have helped me a lot.
Be sure to read Fibro 101...the first thread on the forum. There are links to good info about Fibro and you will learn a lot there. Good starting links are called Symptoms, What Else Could It Be, and A Thorough Explanation of Fibromyalgia. You just might see yourself there. All of Fibro 10- is good so do read it.
I'm looking forward to getting to know you better. Don't hesitate to ask questions because we are here to help you. Mope to hear more from you soon.
