This just aired tonight on PBS (Public Broadcast) I came at this from a different web address. I dont know if it will, but if you are asked to give/confirm your location then do so. International members could name a major U.S. city.

I have stated this previously - anything you buy in a package or bottle are not vitamins. They are products made through chemistry that are a chemists best guess of what a vitamin looks like.

At this time almost all raw materials for vitamins are coming from China and India and have no testing for purity or if they contain the actual product listed.

Vitamin listed as natural use powerful solvents and other chemicals to manufacture the products.

Fish and omega 3 products are one of the worst -they are processed with hexane, a powerful neurotoxin - many are rancid. Fish have one of the most powerful enzyme systems of all living tissue - this starts the rapid rotting immediately after death. This is a good reminder to do your homework before you put anything in your body. I do take supplements and they definitely do help me. I don't take herbs though or things like shark cartilage, etc. I also don't shop at vitamin stores. My reason for this is I had a neighbor with no experience with vitamins and health, got a job at a vitamin store and was telling customers what they should and shouldn't take...like she knew what she was talking about. So....I get my supplements elsewhere and I always pass things by my doctor before I even purchase it. That's a very good rule of thumb.

As for one of the doctors in this video saying they don't think anyone should take vitamin D, now that's just crazy! I was very low in vitamin D even though I live in sunny Florida and am out in the sun all of the time. I wear sunscreen when in the sun to avoid skin cancer. My doctor checked my D levels, saw I was low in this important vitamin and he put me on the D3 supplements. I now have levels at around 50. Normal is 30 -100. I continue to take 5,500 IU a day with my doctor's blessing since he does check my levels.

Some people, like me, have absorption problems so we don't get the vitamins we need through what we eat and need a boost. I started CoQ10 at my doctor's suggestion, since I was on a statin medication and was developing a lot of muscle cramping. I was put on magnesium for muscle cramping and also fatigue. So, supplements do help me a lot and I'm careful where I buy them.

I don't eat fish except maybe four times a year. I just don't care for it. So I tried fish oil capsules from my local drugstore and developed diarrhea right away and I stopped them. But I need a source of Omega 3.

I spent nearly a month searching for what I felt was the very best krill oil. Since this isn't a regulated product you can't be sure how accurate the label info is. Consumer Labs check supplements for their purity and their accuracy on the label and the brand I chose passed with flying colors several different times it was checked. That was huge for me. So I order from a company and have had great results. Yes, Andre, some supplements are checked for purity.

There is no "fishy" odor in the krill I buy...probably because krill are not fish! They are crustaceans...invertabrates. They are in the same family as shrimp, lobster, and crab. Krill live in the extremely cold waters of the Antarctic and spend their days about 350 feet below the surface of the water. At night they come to the surface to feed on phytoplankton. So, please don't bunch things together and voice it as fact.

This is my humble opinion about supplements and krill oil. I will continue using them since the ones I buy have helped me and have my doctor's blessing. I always look for the highest quality.

As an aside, the same things in this video can somewhat be said about pharmaceuticals. There are things going on with medications that aren't fully being reported by the FDA. I had a bone scan when I was 55 years old and menopause had ended for me seven years previously. My scan was perfect! Not even any osteopenia! A year later I was put on Prilosec. I had my next bone scan four years after that and I now had a moderate case of osteoporosis! I was shocked and I did take Evista for four years while still taking Prilosec. I stopped taking the Evista and decided to try to figure out why I developed osteoporosis so quickly when my first scan was wonderful. That's when I found out that the FDA knew that Prilosec and the other PPI's could cause osteoporosis in patients and they were considering putting a black box warning on all PPI's. I don't think that black box warning is on PPI's yet! mad

When I stopped the Evista I have two doctors trying to get me to take another osteoporosis medication. One of the side effects? Death! Gee, I think I should take that one! What do you guys think? shocked

Then you have medications with unbelievable side effects. I guess it's a buyer beware situation along with a quality of life situation. It's important to discuss all these things with your doctor before you ever put them in your mouth. I'm sure there are some bad supplements, as well as medications, out there but there are plenty of good supplements and medications too. Just do your homework and pass everything past a doctor that you trust.
