Lidocaine/ketamine infusion therapy

I was scheduled for 6 lidocaine/ketamine IV infusions this past 2 weeks to treat my fibromyalgia symptoms. As my pain has really begun to ruin my quality of life I was willing to try it. I have been through all the regular fibro drug therapies with no good results. Currently on fentanyl and Percocet and cymbalta.

The infusions take 4 hours each. They are supposed to reset how your body reacts to pain or something similar. Anyway I made it through the first 2. I just couldn't handle the side effects during the infusion or after-- caused me vomiting and lots of nausea-- still and it's been 4 days. But-- I also got immediate pain reduction --- wonderful--and still have although it is starting to come back and I am sure that there is a reason for doing the entire series. I was told it should last several months or longer.

I plan to ask more questions as I have not completely ruled it out for the future. Like what can be done to alleviate the issues during infusion. You can get anti nausea meds and anti anxiety to handle other issues.

Anyone else had the infusions? How were they done and how did you feel? Mostly I would like to know if you got relief.

Thanks for your input. I actually talked to both of my doctors about serotonin syndrome. They said I should be ok since I have been on the drugs for a long time. It usually happens when you raise the dosage or add another antidepressant meds to the list-- also that I would definitely know if it were to happen. All I can do is listen to them. And really ask questions about what they prescribe.

I am not actually sure why I feel worse-- I know that my rheumatologist said that there are so many factors that can contribute to fibro pain. I.e.-- stress,not sleeping,exercise or lack of-- etc etc so people can feel worse at any time. I have found that to be true. I believe having 2 hip replacements within one year has contributed. As well-- I went down on my meds because of insurance issues-- bad idea because I was doing well before the surgeries and the med change.

Fibromyalgia is such a strange condition it is so good that there is a place for people to get info and talk to others about their experiences. Thanks!
