Hello! I'm officially diagnosed with primary Lupus (SLE) and secondary Fibromyalgia.

I thought for sure I was in a Lupus flare.... labs came back good... rheumatologist said he was officially diagnosing me with Fibromyalgia. He wanted me to start Ampitryptline but my OBGYN said "NO WAY" if you're pregnant.

I'm not *currently* pregnant but we aren't preventing....

My question is has anyone had a decent pregnancy with Fibro? My Lupus is currently under control.... but Fibromyalgia is kicking my butt. Pain all day, everyday. We would love a 3rd child but I would be lying if I didn't say I was deathly afraid of pregnancy/c section with Fibro.

I didn't have lupus or Fibro with my other 2 children.

I had my children before I developed fibro but I did have major surgery after fibro (had to have my entire colon removed) and things went great. I was Christmas shopping for six hours at the mall with 89 staples in me three days after being released from the hospital. Fibro didn't stop me. I don't let anything stop me from doing what I want to do.

There are some more natural things that help with pain. I use magnsium malate. It is found in apples but I would have to eat a lot of apples to get pain relief so I use the supplement. I also take vitamin D3. I was deficient in that and that causes more pain also. There are links in Fibro 101 about how these work in the body. Ask your OBGYN about these. I think they would be safe to help with pain but not hurt a developing baby.

Also, walking in really good for fibro. It lessens pain and give us more energy!

Gentle massages could help too. I get one a month and they help me.

I do Trigger Point Therapy on myself when necessary. This can relieve a lot of pain too. I bought The Trigger Point Therapy Workbook from Amazon. It has diagrams to show where the Trigger points are that are causing you pain and then you can press and massage these muscle knots out. I had a frozen shoulder and fixed it by using Trigger Point Therapy!

This is all I can hink of. I'm sure other members will be on with other suggestions. I wouldn't take anything for pain without passing it by your doctor. Ask THEM what they suggest for the pain you have that would be safe if you get pregnant. They will give you the best answer.

I didn't have full-blown FMS until I got pregnant with my first child (girl). I was so sick, and it wasn't morning sickness. It seemed to improve as the pregnancy progressed. Then with my second child (boy), it wasn't bad at all. I'm wondering if the female hormones produced by a female fetus made things worse?

What was the worst thing for me was perimenopause.......when everything went to hell.

But........if pregnancy did have something to do with causing/worsening FMS, I would do it all over again. My children are so wonderful!!

CathyA: Just wanted to say: What a beautiful post! And I'm sure your children are very blessed to have you as a mom.

I didn't have 'full-blown' fibro when I was pregnant; just some little pre-fibro signs here and there, even before my oldest was born, that were mild. But it seems in life things (meaning anything at all--not necessarily fibro or related) often come at us 'out of the blue' so we have to take them as they come.

I lost a baby in a miscarriage a couple years before my youngest was born. When I was pregnant with him, I had some pretty significant signs he wasn't going to make it either, but thankfully he did and the birth went perfectly. No problems at all! Yes, what a gift.

We never know what each day will bring. Personally, I just trust there's a reason and try to move on as best I can.
