Paper catalogs and comfort!

I really understand the logic behind companies discontinuing paper catalogs: everything is now online, less tree waste, simpler for the company, etc., but, personally, I really prefer paper catalogs to buying online.

It's difficult to sit here at the computer for long---my neck and back, especially don't appreciate it! So, I generally hunt for companies which offer paper catalogs so I can sit comfortably on the couch and browse.

Generally, for my fibro needs, I order from Puritan, Swanson Vitamins, and Dream Products, all which offer paper catalogs. I'm going to start letting them know my body definitely prefers those catalogs to browsing online.

I've also let some companies know that I don't order from them because they don't offer catalogs, and I respectfully suggest they reconsider. They could perhaps only offer one catalog a year, or just have a small number available, or even offer a simple listing of products and prices--I'd be okay with that.

Here's what I'm going to send the companies I do order from. I don't know if it will make a difference, but it's worth a try. yeah

Thank you for having a paper catalog. I have fibromyalgia and experience muscle stiffness, so it is often difficult for me to sit at a computer and browse products online. With a paper catalog, I can take more time shopping while relaxing in a more comfortable chair. I have had to discontinue ordering from several companies which no longer offer paper catalogs. Thank you for continuing to offer one!

Good idea, Luvs! I can't sit at my desk top computer for long periods either. But my son bought me an iPad and I absolutely love it. My son wanted me to have one for several years and I said I would never use it. 😂😂😂. He bought a new one and brought his old one to me and set it up for me and now my iPad and I are joined at the hip. 😁 The one I'm using is my third iPad because my son always buys the newest version. The one he has now has a very large screen. I hope he passes that one to me next.

With an iPad you can be anywhere in the house...including bed. I can sit in my comfy chairs and right now I'm sitting outside on my lanai enjoying 82 degree temperatures. (It's been very cold here too...at least for Floridians like myself.). Anyway, when I get off this site I'll be checking out diabetic blood monitors since I need a new one. I can do anything including shopping and ordering gifts to playing games on this. When I travel, it's in my carry-on. That's why when I'm on vacation I can still be on the forum when needed.

So you might think about getting one. You might be able to get a refurbished one from Apple. They usually come with a guarantee since they are the ones that refurbish them and they are like new, I think. I now don't get the back aches and stiff necks anymore.

See...I know how to spend your money! 😂😂😂

I agree with you, Luvs, I like paper catalogs too....and paper books in general! But we seem to be going the way of the dinosaur here. If I owned a company, I'd sure take letters like yours into consideration. Good idea!

I just found an old bookshelf at ARC the other day for $10.99 and was pleased as punch because it fit in my trunk. That's where I find most of my books too.

The tablet idea sounds good too, though, Sherrine. I wouldn't mind having one of those someday! I wouldn't be able to take it everywhere with me, though. Too heavy sad My body can't take weight. Any weight.

I am with sherrine on the ipad..love them!!

However its a bit addictive and can make us sit too much..so you still gotta find your balance..

Also , at times pictures online can be deceiving, photos in the catalog sometimes show the merchandise better?

Sherrine , jealous of that 82.. i am missing sitting in the sun..we are back in the 40 s tomorrow.

Achey, my iPad weighs about 1 pound. It's about as heavy as my mug is hot tea. You wouldn't have a problem with it.

LJ, it cold again here so you don't need to be jealous anymore. 😂 My hands and nose are like ice and I'm I'm in the house! Oh, I agree the iPad can be addictive but it sure beats the pain I was getting sitting at my desk top computer.

Thank you, ladies! Yes, I do like that iPad suggestion! Might be something I need to put on my 'wish' list. I chip away at that list, little by little.

I had sent my "wish you would have a paper catalog" suggestion to Foot Smart, since they have many super products for foot issues. They used to have a great catalog that came in my mail.

Well....good news.....they now are having a seasonal catalog sent out, so of course, I signed up. smile

But even so, that iPad remains on my radar. yeah

Just an idea, I use an Amazon Kindle instead of an Ipad. It does all of the same things but is less expensive. The one I have right now, I bought for about $40 during Amazon's yearly sale around Christmas. I do have a new Ipad but I never use it. We have 3 Kindles and 1 Ipad in my house. We would all be lost without them, I think. I love the Kindle because I can take my "books" anywhere easily. I can read and search the internet in the dark without disturbing my husband by using the blue shade feature.

Hi Michele: Thanks for that idea!

It really caught my attention especially when you mentioned reading and searching online without disturbing your husband. I love to read in bed, just before I go to sleep (light, intriguing fiction or Christian spirituality). I find it so relaxing! My husband never reads in bed. He actually sleeps, LOL, so this is another thing that will definitely be put on my (growing) 'want' list.
