Hi guys.

Normally post in chronic pain forum but having been diagnosed with fibromyalgia I need suggestions. Had x rays on shoulder Friday and was told full of inflammation. Every time they look into something this is what they say. Two injections later and not much relief.

Working at a desk job is getting unbearable. I have ice packs, heating pads, neck pillow, stool and massager just to try make it each day. The ice packs are called paincakes and they stick right on the spot. They are great. So my supervisor who I am very close with saw them recently and ask why the ice packs. I told her so much pain. She said you know you may could get on disability. Really? My employer pays for long term so i was caught off guard but this has been on my mind. I’m calling my general doc who is great and see what he thinks. He has tried everything to help me.

Hi, Bigcase! I just wrote a long post to you and lost it. So I thought I’d take a shortcut and see if I could find an explanation of trigger point therapy which helped me fix my frozen shoulder. Well, I came across a thread you wrote here last year that says what I was going to say to you. I’m posting it here to refresh your memory.

I also found this post I wrote a while ago. I’m a big fan of trigger point therapy.

“Yes, it was here. It's called The Trigger Point Therapy Workbook and I bought mine on Amazon. My massage therapist was massaging me one day and was talking about the trigger points I had. When she would find one (they feel like little knots in the muscle) she would press as hard on it as I could tolerate and then massage the area and repeat the procedure. She did this several times before she moved on. I had never heard of trigger points...just tender points. These are two different things. When I got home I started researching trigger points and heard about this workbook. It really is terrific, I think.

It has explanations and also diagrams of parts of the body and shows you where to look for the trigger points that are causing you pain. Much of the pain is referred pain. For example. I was awakened with terrible side pain and could barely breathe or get comfortable with it. I got up, got the workbook out and looked up side pain. I checked the diagrams and saw my side pain was actually caused by trigger points along my spine. I got out my trusty tennis ball and used this against the wall to help massage that area the way my massage therapist explained it to me. After several minutes I felt that my side was calmed down enough to get back to sleep so I did go back to bed. When I woke up the next morning I had absolutely no side pain!

I have used this workbook to take care of my shoulder/arm pain. Before, I couldn't raise my arm above my shoulder, couldn't put it behind my back, and if I reached for something with that arm I would get such a strong shooting pain that I would gasp. I would massage the trigger points...found in my chest wall, top and behind my shoulder, and also in my neck...while watching TV. It only took a week or so to be able to lift my arm high above my head and I haven't had that pain since. I showed this workbook to the physical therapist in my doctor's office and she bought herself a copy. So it is good.“

I hope you do try this. It’s better to feel better than to be in pain on disability.

That’s wonderful! Trigger point therapy has helped several members on this forum. I was amazed how it helped my arm and side. I used it with my neck too. It was always very stiff and I could barely turn it. I would have to move my whole body to turn my head!

I found two large knots...about the size of marbles, at the base of my skull where the head attaches to the spinal column. One on each side of the spine. I started the pressing and massaging and boy were they sensitive but the knots (trigger points) got smaller and smaller and now they are gone and I can turn my head really far each way with no pain!

It’s things like this that have made me a believer in trigger point therapy. I’ll pray this works well for you too. Did you feel across your chest to see if you could feel sensitive bumps?

Yea. I don’t have any. My entire family on mother’s side has had heart disease. From transplants to by pass. It’s very scary to have chests pains in this family. My heart never drops below 100. I am going to talk to doc about it.
