I'm married to an alcoholic. He drinks 1/2-gallon of Vodka every 24 hours. The only time he isn't drinking, is IF he's asleep. He's 43 years old and has always drank "socially" however, 1/2-gallon of Vodka is not considered "social' I know that.
He is showing signs of liver disease: i.e., ascites, edema, enceph., diarrhea, no longer showers, he lost his voice 4 months ago and that's been gone, he as visible blood vessels all around his abdomen and his navel has POPPED out; his only pledge is to THE BOTTLE.
He has refused any type of medical care............because he states he doesn't have a problem. For some reason, he looks like the blueberry girl in the willy wonka factory movie, but he doesn't know why.
He's also very abusive verbally & emotionally towards me when his Enceph is going on...............I want out of here, out of this HELL on Earth.
But we own a business together; even though he's no longer able to do HIS part, I have to keep going...................I have to keep paying rent, etc.

Hello Cordovian and welcome to HealingWell. I am so sorry that you are going through this. My husband died of this awful disease about 15 months ago. So I know exactly how you are feeling. It's a very tough place to be in.

But to tell you the trueth........I'd go through it all again just to have one more day with my husband. The hell that I went through the last couple of years with him was as bad as it gets. And did I want relief? .....you betcha. But it doesn't compare to the hell that I have been through since he died.

You sound like you are just plain wore out. Take a little time for your self. Even if it is just a walk around the block. Do something that makes you feel good. It doesn't have to cost $$$. It just has to calm you down and recharge your batteries.

You probably know that it is the encephalopathy that increases the abusiveness. I know that if I hurt and was tired all the time, not to mention the confusion I'd get cranky as all heck.

Hang in there Condovian. You have found the best forum on the net. There's so many kind and compassionate members here.

Welcome Cordovian. I am glad you found this site. I have hepatitis and find the info and support a real lifesaver. I am sorry you are going through this. Try to take care of yourself and take time out and away from the situation if you can. Our thoughts and good wishes are with you.

Hi Cordovian,

I have ESLD with Hep C and get very encephalopathetic myself. I did not know that my severe "crankiness" was the disease until I became a member of this group. I used to drink vodka and at times a lot of it. I thought I was a social drinker only also. But you are right, when you drink that much vodka you definitely have a problem. It took me years to realize it and by then it was already too late even though I did not know it yet. I have learned alot from this group in the week I have been a member and appreciate and love everyone. Hang in there and ditto on take care of yourself !!!!
