Prepare yourself for the future, no one knows what happens as each case is different. We the family are so wrapped up in what to do for the best and they if they are an alcoholic are so wrapped up in themselves, to really care enough about anyone else. It is real tough and not very nice, very emotional. You think on one hand this is it, tragic thing is it is for many people, they do not get the chances my mum has had and on the other hand you say lets go again, listening to doctors and nurses opinions on the liver disease and the addiction, and most of them do have an opinion, do not get me wrong think they are doing good, but when you get to my mums stage you do not want to hear it all again. My mum is slowly dying a painful death, but will she stop no. I do recommend that you read as many posts to educate yourself, then you will realise how different things can be..... dont waste your time trying to make him change, he will only do that himself, once he has made his mind up, even then it will be very difficult but it will be possible. sorry to welcome you with such harsh words

We went to the doctor yesterday. He told us that he doesn't have Hepatitis or Cirrhosis. His liver is enlarged and "irritated" but he believes we've caught it in time and as long as he stops drinking and focuses on nutrition and exercise the liver can normalize within 3 months to a year. I wish he would have stressed more the need to completely eliminate alcohol, but instead he said he understands that he might need to cut back and work toward stopping, so my husband of course heard those words and feels he can cut back and control it.

We all know that's not the case, and probably sooner or later we'll be back in this same boat without a happy prognosis, but for now I am grateful that he's not there yet and will pray and work daily to try to encourage stopping. My grandpa was in AA for 40+ years so I totally understand the principals and I also know I can't stop for him, he has to want to do it, all I can do is support him, and love him.

Thanks to everyone for your information and support. I pray you each have the peace and support you need to get through your own personal battles and appreciate that you're willing to help the rest of us. God bless.

I can not express how true that is. My mom was a closet drinker for so long and would have large gaps in between where she did not drink. She has such a short time left with us and there is nothing else we can do to change what has been done. There is no more time to say ok I'll stop and we can all be together. Don't wait untill the end stages to make things better. Start now. The end is scary, sad and painful, and that is for everyone involved. It is the hardest thing so far I have gone through, I can't imagine how hard it is for my mom. I read other people's stories on here and my heart goes out to them. Some not only have this, but other family members who are ill with other diseases and they are left behind to pick up the pieces or help out. The earlier he starts making a difference for himself the better it will be. If anything for the accomplishment of doing what ever it takes to take care of the body and feeling at least you are giving it everything you have. Good luck and I wish you the best!

 Hep 93,Just a short note to let everyone know am still around, I start my treament & pills tom. 8-9 10 , I've talked with alot of Baylor Doctors, am pretty confident about this, My viral load was real low compared to what they have seen,my red & white cell & blood work & etc. looked real good. Kat, let us know how you do on treatment. They should be able to tell by the 12th week if it is working for you.

smilewinkgrin  Hello, Tomorrow i do my 2nd shot, the first one i done real well with it and the pills. Hopefully with a GOD and a lot of prayers, i will fly thru this with flying colors, hope everyone else is doing great. GOD BLESS YOU ALL, kat

Kat, I'm glad you are doing well so far.  However, do be aware that as treatment progresses you may feel very sick, lose weight, etc.  This is normal.  Just try to hang in there!

nono  Thanks hep 93, The 2nd shot didn't faze me at all, went and got my blood drawn 2 day,should be hearing from baylor nurse by tuesday anyway.There checking the first 2 wks. and every 2 wks. after that. Hello Pink GrandMa, GOD BLESS TO ALL !!!!

idea  Hello, Hep 93 & Pink Grandma, This wk. flew by & I do the 3rd shot monday. Had bld.wk. done thursday, should know something on that by tuesday or wed.Will let ya'll know, Hope ya'll are doing great & have a happy sunday. GOD BLESS--- And lots of prayers.

turn  Hello The last bld. wk. looked pretty good, platelets were little low, others were good, my liver count was up, then this wk.iv'e had a rough time my gums started bleeding, but went today for a platelet, viral load, & etc. bld. wk, Baylor wanted the results asap. suppose to call me tom. sometimes.How are you & pinkgrandma doing? Hi, Kat!  Thanks for the update.  The bleeding gums could indicate a clotting issue.  Hopefully, they can prescribe meds for any problems that arise. 

I'm doing okay.  You hang in there!

Kat! I love reading your updates and seeing your positive attitude through your posts! It will make a HUGE difference in how well you tolerate your treatment. I also wanted to add that I think you are being treated by some of the best in this area...the docs at Baylor rock! My hubby is on the transplant list at Baylor, and his hepatologist is amazing!!! He, unfortunately, cannot take the treatment, but maybe with this new one coming out he can take a lower dose combo, just waiting to see. In the meantime, bloodwork and scans every couple of months to monitor him. You take care of yourself!

yeah  Hello, pinkgrandma, hep 93, mer.  Sounds like everyone still kicking, this is a Gods BLESSING, My gums baylor said 1/4 tsp.soda and 1/8 salt w/ warm water rinse 3 or 4 times a day, rub colgate total toothpaste on them it as a antibotics in it. got more bld. wk friday, so tues. will no my viral load,& etc. Have a great Sunday and MAY GOD BLES and care othersS YA'LL. ps. Mer tell your husband to hang in there.        What if, GOD stopped loving and caring for us because we failed to love and care for others ?   KAT
