On Wednesday, I had a check up and the surgeon that did my transplant laid out my labs. For the last couple of months, my enzymes have been climbing, though everything else is perfect. I had a biopsy last month to see what was going on and there was no sign of rejection, which means my Hep C is rebounding. I never believed I was, or will be out of the woods when it comes to problems with my liver and associated medical problems. My surgeon went over all of the lab results and asked me what I thought about them. I said that it was probably time to go back and do the interferon/ribavirin therapy. It was obvious that was what he thought, but let me say the words. I'll be back on the chemo by next week. I don't need anyone saying they're sorry for me, or praying for me. This is simply what's happening and I will deal with it as I have throughout the past decade of liver disease. If it weren't for my transplant, I'd have been dead a year ago, so whatever happens, I'm ready for it. Hopefully, this won't be any worse than the first time I did the treatment. I'm glad to be back here, as I missed the forum. If I hurt somebody's feelings, with mine, that's just me. There's no filter between my brain and what I say or write.

I don't feel sorry for you. I am glad that you are still here and are healthy enough to undergo treatment again, you are a lucky man! 

What is your viral load at the moment?

What stage did your biopsy put your liver at? Hopefully you have little fibrosis so that you have the best chance of clearing the virus and staying clear.

Anyway, I hope that the side effects treat you kindly and that treatment works for you.

David, I guess your enzymes were high enough that you felt you should repeat treatment.  I hate that your hep C came back and you have to go through treatment again, but I know you'll do what you have to do to take care of yourself.

I can't tell you what my viral load is. I know it's not bad, as my surgeon said he wasn't worried about it. My biopsy showed no damage, just some irritation. I'm stage 1 and we (editorially) want to keep it that way. The point is to stay ahead of the virus, before there is any damage.

Rick, doing well except for fatigue.  I had tried e-mailing you and it was returned to me.  Can you e-mail me if you still have my addy, or okay David to forward your address to me?  I took mine out of my profile as I was getting too much spam and also a virus.

Ok David. So I won't say my prayers are with you. But I am very grateful for what you bring to this forum. There are not many that stick around after transplant. It sounds like your doing well other than the Hep C. I am sure you are going to clear it for good this time.

Good luck. Do you know how hard it is for me not to say you know what?

I'm sorry to hear about your Hep C returning, David. Can't wait until I can start treatment for mine. I won't be able for that until June of next year. If then. I developed a UTI caused by E.coli and the antibiotic they said I need to clear that up, I'm allergic to an ingredient in. So they put me on Nitrofur...now I have to have LFT's checked out on Friday. Hopefully no liver damage from it. Other than that, doing wonderfully well!!!

I haven't been able to get on here like I need to. Going to try to stay up-to-date from now on.

With any luck, the three part cocktail will be available by the time you start. It's far more effective and doesn't take a year to work. Good luck!

David,
You did the treatment before, so you know how difficult it can be. You also know that you can get throught it though. Good luck, and be sure to post while your on the cocktail.

Thank you, David. I'm hoping that it will work. The antibiotic they had me on for UTI really messed up my numbers. I was called on Saturday morning to be told ALL my numbers were elevated. My potassium level was at 6.5 and they sent me to ER to have it checked again. If it hadn't gone down, I would be admitted. Luckily, numbers were down. Now have to go back on my postassium lowering meds.

But, I'm thankful that's all it was! I know you'll be ok. Just keep the faith and positive thinking.

My second shot of pegasys is tomorrow. The first shot didn't make me feel too badly, so I'm hoping the ones that follow won't be any worse. I did notice that they have me injecting 90 mcg. and the last time, it was 135 mcg.. As I recall, the interferon made be feel like I had the flu, whereas the ribavirin did a lot of other terrible things (sores, hair falling out, thrush, etc.). I'll keep you posted.
