Connie & Rick - Much appreciation again for your replies. I do understand where you are both coming from - however I was stressed about
that with everything going on I decided to stop for a couple of drinks.
I do miss the socializing part of our life as we are both pretty well known in our area due to his former job at a popular golf club and mine as a realtor. Seldom did we stay at home much and seldom could we go anywhere without seeing friends. On the rare occassion that we didn't run into someone we would always somehow make new friends. Of course it was mostly at bars, but we have quite the bar napkin rollodex ! LOL. I haven't even been able to work for the last couple of months which I guess has me feeling even more isolated.
We have recieved nothing but support and encouragement from all of our friends during these past few months. They even had a huge benefit for us to raise some money to help us through financially.
Rick - I learned a lot about the "sympathetic ears that are ill motivated" when at 35 years old and after 16 years with my husband I got divorced. Not going any where near there now. I'm right here with him fighting this ugly fight. Using you all here for my sympathetic ears. Thanks. Again.
Took a while to reply to this as the day after I posted we ended up back at the ER. Went to Drs appointment monday for follow up to hospital stay. Dave was not doing well. New bloodwork done and Drs office called and said his potassium was at 7.9 and to get him to ER right away. Thing is that right when he was released on Thanksgiving day the nurse brought in potassium supplements for him to take. Said his potassium was low. Gave us a dose for that night because the pharmacy was closed and a prescription that I had filled the next day. Made him choke them down for over a week then ended up in the hospital. Expressed my frustration to the first Dr in the ER and he told me that he should not have been sent home on the potassium and the aldactone ! The aldactone is a potassium sparing drug which can cause high potassium levels and should not be taken with potassium supplements without close monitoring. Why, why, why - releasing Dr prescribed it, GP obviously didn't bother to read the hospital report, pharmacist didn't catch it, visiting nurses didn't catch it ! How can we fight this battle when the "professionals" that we are relying on are so unreliable!
Sorry so long once again. Guess I should post more often, maybe won't be as long, but things seem to be happening so fast. He came home on friday. EH seems worse than ever. Didn't have his weekly paracentesis and is so swelled up because of that and the IV fluids all week. Because of BP issues the Kidney Dr. doesn't want him to have it done unless he's significantly symptomatic. He feels that it may exuberate renal failure. He's having a hard time tonight with shortness of breath and an aching back due to all the fluid. Hoping to avoid the ER again - but I don't know if we can.
Again, thanks for reading/listening.
