Hello All,
I have been trolling this site for the last three weeks and I have found it to be comforting in everyone's honesty. My brother in law is 39 years old and 3 weeks ago he was diagnosed with severe alcoholic hepatitis with all of the bells and whistles, ascites, jaundice, gynomastoma (sp?), hepatic encepholopathy. He detoxed in the hospital and was sent home. After 5 days at home he forgot how to walk. He was admitted to the hospital and now he cannot walk, sit up on his own and has progressed to not being able to swallow. He is battling pneumonia now and when he talks he sounds like he is gargling. The hospital doctors have now involved the palliative care team. Twice in the last 4 days we have been told it could be any minute now. The ups and downs are so extreme it seems like his downs are getting worse and his ups are not really ups. My husband is devasted with his brothers condition. I feel in my heart like it could be anytime now. Has anyone else experienced this happening so quickly? Our world has been turned upside down and any advise, words of wisdom and sharing of experiences would be appreciated.
