Marie, it's fine to post here, but if you want to start your own thread on the regular part of the forum, that's fine, too. At any rate, welcome.
How old is your dad? That might be one consideration in treatment. What genotype he has can also play into it, with genotypes 1a and 1b being the most difficult to clear. There is a new treatment becoming available soon from Vertex Pharmaceuticals that is a combination of interferon, ribavirin, and a protease inhibitor. The protease inhibitor is the new drug in this mix. It is showing a 76% clearance rate in genotypes 1a and 1b, with a 90% clearance in a sub-type of 1a (I just learned this today.) But I believe you said in your other post that the genotype is 3.
I suggest you go to the doctor with your dad before he starts treatment, and ask some hard questions...specifically why are they "leery of doing treatment?" If there's something that can be corrected, then that should be done.
Hugs,
Connie
