Mitzi, I don't have expanded cable, so I order TV series from Netflix. I average 2 disks a week, so about 8 a month for $10. I watched all of Nurse Jackie up till this season and am waiting for it to become available on disk. That's my kind of humor. I saw all the seasons of Six Feet Under...both funny and sad series. Hated to see it end. Also saw all the seasons of Weeds and am awaiting the current season. I'm currently on Season 4 of Dexter, which I'm enjoying as much as previous ones, but throw a movie in once in awhile. Greatest movie of all time: Forrest Gump. I've seen it 4 x. Funniest movie: Animal House. Most of the humorous movies these days seem just plain silly to me.
For many, many years, my favorite movie was The Greatest Show on Earth...mainly because I lived in Sarasota around that time, when Ringling Bros. still had their winter home there. That was the Main St. I knew...now so much different. I also loved Cornel Wilde, Gloria Graham, and Jimmy Stewart in it (Betty Hutton not so much.) I saw it 15 x.
As a kid, I went to the movies every Sat. and saw all of the musicals. American in Paris gave me the dance bug and I took ballet classes for years...later jazz dance (the kind you see on Broadway...though I was never that good or tall enough.)
My mother was a big movie buff. She loved the actresses/dancers from the 30s and 40s, like Eleanor Powell, Fred Astair, and Cyd Charisse.
Instead of bedtime stories, I had parts of Gone with the Wind acted out for me. Mother knew all the characters' big scenes by heart. (Butterfly McQueen: "I don't know nothin' 'bout birthin' no babies.")
During my using and drinking days, I got away from movies and TV. But now I'm back!
Have you seen Black Swan or Get Low with Robert Duval? Those were both good. Little Fockers--they should end the sequels. Country Strong was pretty good. I Love You Phillip Morris with Jim Carrey was the funniest movie I've seen in awhile. Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps was not as good as the first one by a long shot. But Michael Douglas was good, as always. Winter's Bone was okay. The Lovely Bones was the most chilling movie I've seen in a long while (Stanley Tucci, Mark Wahlberg, Susan Sarandon.) Hereafter and Iris (Judith Dench) were just okay.
So there you have it.
P.S. David, "Positively 4th St.", Bob Dylan - I just ordered A Freewheeling Time by Suze Rotolo...published in 2004 - by the long ago g.f. of Dylan who was seen on the cover of his first album, A Freewheeling Bob Dylan. That's how he looked when I knew him.
Hugs,
Connie
