question about portal hypertension

This question comes up because of Natahsa/WifeofDrinker's post about ascites without portal hypertension.

It has been my understanding that cirrhosis causes portal hypertension.  That the two go hand in hand.  That there may be fibrosis and no HP, but once there was cirrhosis there was also the portal hypertension.

Always trying to learn.  All comments appreciated.

Princess said to say hello. I asked him about portal hypertension and he said that it feels like a heart attack only higher. It's very uncomfortable when they bleed. It comes hand in hand with chronic liver disease. Some people are lucky however,it depends on your age according to Prof Veysey and how long you've had ESLD .Michael has it and has been banded five times,due for another banding soon. Just from Michael's point of view it is very painful and uncomfortable .Wishing you the best,

I didnt know that portal hypertension feels like having a heart attack only higher.

Thank god for that - it means I havent got it as theres no pain like that so I am clearly not that far gone.

Hands are still red though.
