Hi again everyone, just thought I'd see if someone might be able to help me.  Ben has been have severe pain in the right side of his abdomen for the last 3 days which has been gradually getting worse.  I spoke with the doctor this morning and he said that it's hard to know but could be a slow internal bleed.  He has blood in bowel movements and very swollen stomach and his entire body is so jaundice. Does anyone have any thoughts?  Also has really bad pain in the kidneys that come on yest. morning and continuing to get worse.  Still going to the toilet but urine very dark.  Could this be onset of kidney failure?  Also had a severe headaches for the past 6 days that just doesn't go away.  He started losing his vision around the same time.  Any suggestions would greatly be appreciated.

Is he drinking enough water?  Would he be willing to go to the doctor or the ER?

Hi Connie not really drinking much water at all, finds it hard to swallow and says it makes him feel sick (worse than usual). No won't goto ER or doctor. Says he wants to just stay at home. Won't really even see the GP or Hospice now. I communicate with them but with no scans or tests hard for them to provide many answers but the doctor just keeps telling me it's expected and thats it but I was hoping for some guidence really and can't get that from the doctors, however I do not blame them, Ben is not the easiest patient. He is scared that if I get him to the hospital he won't come home. He really wants to just die at home. He has agreed that if he goes into a coma for example and I can't cope he said I can get him to the hospital but while he is still with it, I can't get him to go. If he is not drinking water and hardly eaten for the last month nearly could this be causing the pain? Thanks again Connie

My mother in law had those pains a couple of months ago. SHe would double over and cry like a child. We took her into the e.r. and she had a slight blockage in her bowels. How I will never know, but they put her on an antibiotic and lots of fluids and she has been fine since. Now she takes cipro 3x a week and hasnt had the problem since then.

She doesnt eat well either. Maybe one good meal a day that equals about half of a meal for my 11 year old. Other than that every once in a while she will eat some oats, something soft. Maybe he will eat soft foods. towards the end, it is often times easier for them to eat soft foods. Try and get him to drink even if it is small sips at a time, so he doesnt dehydrate too much. I would assume not eating and drinking could cause some pain, but it may also be liver flapping pains. Her doctor told us her liver would spasm (flapping) and it could cause pain. He told us to watch for tremors in her hands and that is a sign that it may be flapping as he called it.

Krista, I wish he would at least allow hospice nurses to come in. They would communicate their findings to his doctor and suggest palliative meds.

Watch the color of his urine. The darker it becomes, the closer to death he is.

.try to be strong
...like Connie I wish you could get a nurse or hospice to help and see how he is doing


My husband would rather be so sick at home then in hospital if he had his choice
.but when he starts sleeping alot and H.E kicks in I call 911 !
