Banding to be scheduled

Hi Emma,

My husband Dennis has had banding numerous times.  Usually it goes quite well with no problems.  Depending on how much medications they give him to knock him out; is how well he comes out of it.  Most of the time he is pretty clear headed afterwards but a little groggy.  He might say the same thing 3 or 4 times until he is completely awake.  His throat will be sore and he will need to only eat soft food for a day.  My husband usually gets Tramadol for pain but usually he really doesn't need it. 

 He has never had a bad experience having the banding done....now he wouldn't sign up for it for fun but it's not the worse thing to have to have done.  He usually is at the hospital for about 2 hours and part of that is recovery time.  No food after a certain hour and only take medications that they say are ok to take with small amounts of water.  Then the doctor usually comes and talks to me and lets us know what he did or didn't do as in how many bandings.  Then they wheel him out to the car and I drive home.  Usually he goes to bed when we get home for a while as it's a couple hours to the hospital and the time at the hospital and then the trip home....and he is tired after that.

Hopefully Emma it will go without a hitch and be over before you know it!!:)

If Mike had kept off the sauce maybe he wouldnt have gitten so sick so quickly

Everyone, thank you for the replies.

Scheduler will call hubby today to schedule banding sometime in the next week or so.

I always feel really protective of him, and I so did not want this for him. I know that it is to prevent something really horrible, but I find myself wishing we weren't in this world of liver disease. And every time there is something to consider, another test, whatever, it brings it back into focus.

So on that note, I will view this as a good thing...getting a banding done as prevention of a bleed, not a reaction to a bleed. And as others posted, a reminder to Dougie that he has this condition, and if he were to return to his old drinking ways it would be very bad.

He on the other hand, is just very matter of fact about all of this. This is the man that use to HATE to go to the doctor. Now for him, just a part of life. In many ways, he had adjusted better than I have.
