Oh man ....my mom wasn't feeling well yesterday and had to go to er......really high blood pressure and high heart rate ....they kept her ..gave her list of meds and have in somewhat under control .....so I'm left home taking care of his hubby and my elderly grandmother ..who is not easy to handle ..which I know she is tubr reason my mom is stressed to begin with .....I help my mom with her when I can but my plate is full already ....well I made it through the day and night with taking care of everyone ..I had to cancel als bloodwork and clinic appt and do it Thursday.....because taking my grandmother out and for that long drive is not possible with a bed ridden 91 year old and two wheel chairs not possible ..at least transplant nurse was understanding and rescheduled the appt ...hope my mom can relax and not let every thing worry her ..she. is making herself sick ...she has been my grandmothers caregiver for several years and just needs a plain break ..I talk to her at hospital about possibly putting her in nursing home and she said she is close to that point but it is expensive so ....we will see ....so tired of taking care of everyone....I hate to be selfishto feel this way ......dreaming of being on a tropical island .....hate seeing my mom feel bad ..she is a great women and my world ......

Oh, my...a double decker sandwich...life has dealt a hard road for you folks.

Would it be cheapter, or maybe covered by medicare/medicaid to get a health aid in there to look after Granny some hours a day? With her personal care, for example?

I had my Dad for a year, wheelchair, no control of bowels or bladder, and difficult. And little kids, and Mike with liver disease episode. I was a mess, but Dad's Medicare pitched in. In CT they told us there was money to use for home care instead of NH care, as it was cheapter to leave the elderly in a home environment.

I just bet your Mother is tired. I'm tired just thinking about what you are going through.

Hugs, and post as often as you like. You AND your Mom are tireless caregivers. That family of yours is lucky to have you.

Now, you need to keep yourself well and strong, don't forget.

Thanks Carol...I'm going to look into options ....Medicare will pay for 100 days of nursing home if she goes to hospital and they place her there ....last night changing my grandmother she had blood in her urine ..she lives with uti and we get rid of them and they come right back ..I'm going to get hold of her home health nurse that comes once a week to let her know about the blood ...its reoccurring and because she is so old they are scared to do lower or upp.mer gi .....we will see ...i just talked to my mom on phone she sounds better .......well needed rest she needed but I. Know my mom she is worry about all the house stuff and grandma driving us crazy ..so I'm sure she didn't rest her mind ......getting house together and cleaned ...

I'd probably have a nervous breakdown with this additional stress. I was caregiver once for then-b.f.'s mom who was dying of cancer...and I also worked. We had someone there during the day. Insurance paid for it, but don't remember what kind she had. Anyway, I remember how very stressful it was over the course of a month or so, before she went into Hospice home. There was never a break, and I got called home from work a number of times in emergencies. My hat is off to you. Once a week nurse visit is not enough. She needs an aide a couple of times a week and I know Medicare and Medicaid cover it if doctor prescribes. So do look into that to give your mom a break.

Also, as ML said, remember to take care of yourself. I recommend 500 mg of vitamin C a day to boost your immune system. When people get worn down, they get sick.

Wow,, a double whammy. I agree with Connie, I would have nervous breakdown. Be sure to take extra care of yourself. The let down usually doesn't happen until the stress has passed. Be prepared. Vitamin C...a nap(!) even 5 minutes when you can. Angie...another candle here!

I'm making crafts ..and my stress level is actually ok. My mom said doc said she could come home today ..but I'm gonna make her take it easy ....one more thing and I might crack ....lol

Oh Elle!! Thye say God never puts more on a person than they can handle, but sometimes I think he pushes it!! I hope things calm down for you and the family soon . .

  This calls for the "Mega Group Candle Lighting...with ceramony."  Ceramony will be attended by all 6 black and white tuxedo cats in residence.  The ceramony will begin at 7:00PM tonight as the winds here in NE dip the weather into the "Zero" range later tonight.  Hopefully, the MGCLwC will not create the need for our wonderful local Volunteer Fire Department tonight....and will send you (well, all those you are caretaking for) healing.

   Dear A Ziffle...I have put in an order for that pork aroma candle for the next Group Lighting....and was told the closest aromas they have  is called "Old Sweaty Boot".   redface Don't think that will work ! Interestingly enough, that's what the candle maker immediately thought of when mentioning swine. wink

Angie , Although sweaty boot does sound lovely I prefer " Gentle breeze over the outhouse " . Kinda makes me feel warm inside .

I gotta ask , Six Cats ????? I'm a pig for Gods sake and partial to my fellow animals but 6 frickin cats ? We got one big Tom around here ( Black ) and he's got more lives than a soap opera actor , He's just plain evil to boot . Shot him 3 times so far with a pellet riffle , Animal control can't catch him , tried my version of Kevorkian cocktail on him . I actually caught him in a coon trap once , He snarled and hissed at me trying to claw and bite through the wire mesh . I finally got the nerve to put on gloves and pick the cage up to load it into my old jeep and suddenly the back door of the trap swung open . That cat came out guns blazing and before the cage could hit the ground I was back in the house peeking through a window at him , Ya know I was still pretty sick at the time but I swear that cat sat there and flipped me the finger ( Bird ) . After that he avoids me when possible and I do the same with him . Mutual respect I suppose .

Elle, good to hear that things have calmed down some.

I'm a cat lover. =^..^= I've had 3 adult cats and also 1 with 4 kittens....but 6 would be way too many for me to handle.

Elle-glad that everything is settling down a bit.

My co-worker fosters kittens. Has to bottle feed them, etc. Once she brought one to work. It was the cutest little guy! I wish she would bring them in more often. I swear it made everyone in the office in a better mood.

Cats are like monkeys , They look all cute and cuddly till they grow up and try to maul you to death . They pee on everything , They claw up a vehicle paint job in cool weather ( The warm automobile slip and slide ) , They lay landmines in the yard ( bury the poop just deep enough to keep you from knowing your shoe is covered in crap ) . Did I say shoe ? I meant hoof .

Sounds like you had outdoor cats, Ziffle. Indoor ones don't usually exhibit that kind of behavior--especially if they've been neutered and declawed. I'm not big on declawing, but it is necessary to train them to use a scratching post early on. I don't like the shedding, but the hairless variety of kitty is just plain fugly.

The lady next door has two indoor/outdoor cats and she feeds the strays outside with her own cats , What started out as 2 irritating cats has turned into a mob of 8 feral ones . I blame her and the people who dump these animals , she feels the need to run a cat shelter at everyone's expense who has to deal with problems they create . I refuse to go into her house due to the filth of the cats . Keep waiting to see if the film crew from Hoarders show up .

Yes, 6. it takes 6 cats to take down one of the Nebraska field mice that sneak in when the weather drops in the minus 10 range!!  (We live with fields all around us and plenty of roaming room for field mice.) 

Mice have to be hardy to live here and they don't mind taking on 4 cats, 5 they think about it  idea and 6 seems to be the magic number for no field mice in the house. 

These are color matched black and white tuxedo WORKING CATS, fully armed.   skull    (Kind of like a Clysdale hitch of 6, they pull their own weight.) Trained by an retired elephant trainer, who also trained and performed with tigers...a cat is a cat he says.  (Hair problem solved by vacuuming them.) 

The story about the black Tom Cat is a good one...two old scrappers giving each other the "what for".

Sounds like just what you need, Ziffle, for dealing with the cats next door. I agree that feral cats are a real problem.

Angie...my cats would run under the bed at the sound of the vacuum....for 20 yrs. I used to just brush them a lot and got a good vacuum for the floor and furniture, plus other methods such as damp cloth.

I've had dogs and cats. They're both great, for different reasons. I like cats because they love themselves first and foremost. It makes their owner realize they own you, not the other way around. I respect that. If you treat them poorly they'll leave and look for greener pastures. Even when they rub up against you and purr, it's because it feels good to them.

On the other hand, dogs will love you no matter what. Mistreat a dog and they'll most likely stick around. Any attention, no matter how negative is better than nothing. Reminds me of some people.

I have a pit bull companion my wife bought for me . Still a puppy and weighs 60 lbs , 60 lbs. of lawn furniture chewing , Landscape mangling , muscle and teeth . The back area of the house is fenced in so the pit lives out there in his dawg condo and my wife's mini Yorkie lives in the house but visits with the pit daily .

Cats have a place as David says , But it aint around Mr. Ziffle's pen . I got a guinea pig that is bigger than the wife's Yorkie , That dog is terrified by that guinea pig . Missy ( Guinea Pig ) fell into my hands when my step daughter decided she didn't like cleaning the cage . Best animal I ever had , shes kinda like me lethargic , eats , sleeps , poops and not much else .

Mike , I still slip into the house on occasion just to get away from the ruckus of barnyard life . Being around humans wears off pretty quickly though , Somebody inevitably pulls my tail , pinches my jawls or ask me to put clothes on . Ehh Back to the pen .

I'm sure your pit is a very nice dog, but personally I think they should be banned from homes with little kids and be required to be chained up if outside on a short leash. There are way too many instances of kids being maimed and even killed by pits. I see it on the news here all the time--really horrific. At times the pit bulls have been provoked, but usually they seem to come out of nowhere and make lunch out of little ones.
