Happy St Patricks Day to y'all,
I started to post about a half hour earlier...that I hadn't heard from Connie...but NOW I HAVE.
She had her surgery on Wednesday and today, Saturday, 3 days later, she is still pretty out of it.
They completely opened her incision, a Mercedes type, on both sides, and redid the closing, stapled everything in place. She described it as a hernia that went competely across her abdomen! That is all closed now and she is wrapped tight over the staples.
Her liver is functioning just fine. I guess they didn't have to mess with that.
But her post op experience is not going that well. She is having some breathing problems and 3 days after surgery is on oxygen 24/7..a mask kind, not the nasal canula. She is not getting up and around as she expected she would and she is quite congested. Deep juicy coughing. That can't feel good. Her kidney labs are not good either.
She said they told her pre-op she'd likely go home Monday, 5 days post op...but she cannot imagine feeling well enough to be on her own by then! She is hoping she qualifies for some home care post op.
Her mental status was only okay. She reports that she is getting less of the strong stuff, but you could hear the SOB as she chose her words carefully. She said she tried to call out yesterday to let people know she was okay, but couldn't make sense of the numbers on her cell phone...ahhhh, the good drugs will do that to a person.
Her friend Bill is not availble to help out and her family is not close. So she'll be alone at home.
She is a strong one, so I'm sure she will work this new wrinkle out just fine...I certainly hope they send her home with some aftercare plan for a visiting nurse every day...for some hours at least.
She thought she'd need to rest a bit before coming back to HW regularly...so we'll see.
There are several "old timers" who are checking in on the posts and keeping the ball going...so folks should post as usual and we will all pitch in to share our experiences as we have been.
Remember that she started reading the posts as soon as she came home last time, though she didn't start posting...so she will read your get well quickly posts and good wishes!
Who's turn is it to light the candles tonight?
Hugs,
Carol
