I just had a thought, weird I know.  Since the liver is the only organ that can regenerate itself, why couldn't they put some normal liver cells in a lab and have a person's liver regenerate and transplant that liver into the patient instead of waiting around for a donor liver? 

I know stupid question but this is 2012 and so much seems possible.

Wouldn't that be exciting. Because of the lives saved, I really don't see anything wrong with using embryonic stem cells also, especially if they were going to discard those stored at fertility clinics that would not be used.

I forgot to mention in my earlier post about the surgery. My daughter asked the surgeon if she would regrow that portion of the liver that she lost and he said "no because of the cirrhosis."

Who knows if there will ever be a cure for cancer? I am thinking not. But, if they could grow organs and replace them, then that would save many, many lives.
