Okay, just last week I had my first liver biopsy done on thursday the 20th. I was really nervous about it all but it went pretty smooth. Other than the amount of pain I had after it was done. For the next 3 days. It hurt to talk, breath or even move. So here is my question. It has almost been a week and the site where they did the proceeder is still hurting. Also is mildly inflamed as well. Is this a normal thing to occur? I know I'm not the only one out there but I can't find anyone to talk to about this.

Call your doctor and have them take a look. There could be an infection.

I agree with David, Star. That is not normal. Sometimes a patient is a little sore afterwards for the day of the biopsy, but after that should be fine, with no evidence that it has even been done.

Mike having liver biopsy Monday. But not the kind where they go through the abdomen.

Can someone explain how this one works?

Sounds like a transjugular one where they go in via a vein in the neck. They can do it that way even if your blood isn't clotting properly.

I have never had one done that way but most people I know who have found it OK.

I know that I will undoubtedly have a biopsy at 1 year post-transplant. Will ask about the transjugular. I doubt that it would be as painful or nerve-wracking as the usual way.

I agree with others to call you Doctor.

I had one on Monday and now only have mild discomfort at the site.

I had my first liver biopsy just yesterday and it was totally painless.  The Dr. was able to take 4 tissue samples by entering through my abdominal cavity...no ribs...no jugular. 

I thought he was poking around the needle-entrance point for numbing purposes and then he said "we're done".  Whaaaaaaaa??? 

When the sedatives wore-off, STILL no pain!  It has been less than 24 hours...NOTHING!

I hope my results are as painless as the biopsy!

I have had both types of biopsy. One, you are a little sore in your abdomen and the other, you are
a little sore in the neck following the procedure.

I had the traditional biopsy in 1990 and the Transjugular in 2006 when my inr was more elevated. turn

If it wasn't for what blood tests are revealing on me, I would be totally blind 'cuz I have no sympts.  AST = 100, ANA = 500, Ferritin = 1,000.  That is all I know and my GP Dr. freaked-out over it...

ANA Ferritin, welcome to the forum. Why did you have a liver biopsy? With the ANA that high, you could have autoimmune hepatitis (AIH.) The elevated iron level indicates an overload of iron (hemochromatosis.) As a new member, you should start your own thread/topic and introduce yourself and your situation to others here. Hi Connie,

I guess I dunno' what's goin' on with me and no-one is tellin' me anything other than I am headin' for an early grave based on my readings. 

I have no place else to even know where to go and I feel great (minus the brain-drain the docs are givin' me over ANA).

But I did have a liver biopsy yesterday so I Googled it and discovered this thread in this forum. 

Maybe I should just die and go away...

ANA, stop that stinkin' thinkin'! Just because you have some high lab values doesn't mean you're going to croak. What do they tell you? Do you have a diagnosis? Is your liver disease related to drinking or is it an autoimmune hepatitis? Demand answers (in a nice way, of course.) You have every right to know what is going on with your body and to receive appropriate treatment, if indicated. From the very little you have told us, it's impossible to get a grasp on what the issue is. You should know more when your biopsy results come back. Ask for an explanation of anything you don't understand! And please come back and let us know (preferably in your own thread.)

No diagnosis yet...I need my biopsy results first. Its just that Google tells me that w/o all-normal liver level readings, that one needs to get on the "Donor List" like every time!

Yep...I drink a few, but not enough for that to be an issue. I was even told that I cannot change my stupid ANA level with all of the lifestyle changes in the world...sucks man...

So...just put me on the "List" or I'll just die. This crap has TRASHED my entire summer and I don't even physically feel sick...

You should be thankful that you don't feel sick and that your doctor is taking the time to try to uncover the reason for your lab values.

Don't believe everything you read on Google. One does NOT automatically go on the list (and it would be the list for transplant recipients, not donors!) You would have to go through a very involved pre-transplant analysis to find out if you even qualify to be placed on a waiting list. Trust me, at this point you are far from being on a transplant list. If what you have done thus far with tests is just way too much for you and keeping you from fun and games, you may as well forget trying to find out what the problem is or how to treat it. It becomes a full time job.

Sorry, but there are far too many people literally dying to get on a transplant list, who would do anything and give up everything in order to attain placement and avoid death. Read back over some of these posts and you will understand where I'm coming from.

So--nothing else to say until your biopsy results come in. When they do, please start a new topic.

Any alcohol will damage your liver. Get with the program. Either you'll do the right things, or not. Decide whether you wish to stay healthy. It's a simple choice to make.

To "Dave": They ALREADY infrormed me that all of the "Lifestile Changes in the World" will NOT affect my ANA numbers, dude! That is the ONLY reason that I even co'oped' w/ the liver biopsy! Do U actually BELIEVE that cuttin'-off alcohol is the total answer to all "liver"-related issues?

Just parachute me over Iran...I'll take-out as many as I can...and the "LIST" won't even matter...I was in the Army...I can do this...

ANA , No need to get defensive with people who are attempting to lend you a hand . Both of the people who responded have tons of experience with liver related issues , They are in fact liver recipients . Read your original question and your responses above and think about how they come off .

We can't see you or know every aspect of your situation but we can see your words , It's easy to suspect alcohol would be a factor given your response's . All people who join here are given the basics on liver health and alcohol consumption is a huge no , no .

If your being treated at the VA what one are you going to ? We have alot of members who are being treated there . Could you be having PTSD or came in contact with toxins during your tour ?

This day and time it's not good to sound as if your about to flip out and take folks out ( No matter your perhaps justified opinion )
. You may be getting incorrect info from your doctors , It's possible . There are second opinions . Giving up over some doctors conclusion is to me irrational no matter if he be spot on right or not of the diagnosis . Surely you must be familiar with the term " Live to fight another day " .

Thanks Dave...and U SUCK too...thanks for hoping that my case worsens, dude! I have read nothing here more than gloom/doom and now yer' pushin' it on me.

I'll share my story of ANA in good time. I haven't had any "alcohol" in ages, but for the FIRST time in a long time, I wouldn't mind a slug right about NOW!!!

Thanks man! I have no right to be "defensive" after all of the "alcohol" accusations and my ANA is just the alcohol that I never consumed! Thanks man!

I am not part of a V.A. Study and use my regular insurance towards all bills. Why must you attack newcomers? Is it fun to do that?

As for being parachuted over Iran...SOMEONE needs to do that before they nuke Israel...just sayin'!

ANA, since you are not interested in suggestions and input from us, perhaps you should look elsewhere. You have "hijacked" another member's thread (another Internet etiquette no-no), though I have repeatedly asked you to start your own thread. Members were simply saying that you cannot drink alcohol at all with liver disease. If you are not, that's great...but why get so defensive?

Star, I am so very sorry, but I think it's best to lock this thread. You can start another. If ANA posts on it, I will delete his post(s.) Thanks for understanding.
