Marmel, there can also be varices in the abdomen...or a bleed from ulcers or other problems. I feel sure they will find the problem and fix it. My prayers are with you both.

Sitting in the ICU at Einstein hospital in Philadelphia. He is on a ventilator...and now his kidneys are shutting down again. He has pulled through this before...asking for prayers to do it again! I never thought I would actually pray to God for pee! :) It is so hard to sit here and watch him...my mind starts to wonder and I think how will I go on without him, and then I yell at myself to get back on track with the positive thoughts.

Hey Carol and everyone....I am with my daughter at the Hospitality house they have here at the Albert Einstein Medical Center. It will give us a break from driving 1 1/2 hours each way. Here is the update...his kidneys have just about shut down and they are starting slow dialosys tonight. We met with the head transplant doctor today and he is following Shawn closely. His name is Dr Navarro. He asked alot of questions and promises to try to get to the bottom of exactly what caused the liver to be in this state. As it stands now,. they are looking at autoimmune disorder, etc. He is in very critical condition, but they are doing everything to get him past this crisis state. It is day by day and hour by hour for me (us). I am fine one minute and a babbling crying idiot the next...sound familiar anyone? Thank you all for your continued prayers...he is a fighter! Love to prayers to all!

I feel a bit relieved just hearing you say he's getting proper care and they seem eager to get to the bottom of this . Thank you so much for keeping us posted on his condition , We all are pulling for him to get through this .

Marmel, You don't know me but my husband has ESLD also.  I just want you to know that you have a LOT of friends here pulling for a turn in his condition for the better.  Thanks for keeping us updated, you try to get some rest and take care of yourself as much as you can.  Heres praying in Portland, Or.  Pat

Hello all. My journey with all of this started the beginning of October when my husband became jaundiced. He drank moderately to heavy and was diagnosed with acute alcoholic hepatitis. He was in the hospital originally for low sodium level. He was home for about 10 days and then back in. He was dehydrated and his kidneys stopped working. Last week at this time, he was given about 10 days to live. His kidneys are back to normal and I brought him home last night. He sees a apecialist tomorrow am. He just turned 47 Oct. 8th. I am sooo scared. The specialist who saw us before he was discharged told us that we need to wait until the dust settles to see where the liver stands. I am just praying and praying! Has anyone dealt with acute alchoholic hepatitis?

Another day!!! Holding his own, not really any change. They have now said they do not think it was pneumonia..it is just all of the fluid he is holding. They started a slow dialysis again (which they stopped last night because of his pressure dropping). Hopefully that is helping him get rid of some fluid. The doctors are so wonderful here and are determined to do everything they can. I just know Shawn is fighting as well! Keep praying, please!

It's good news to know that he is getting the care he needs and has survived thus far. Nevertheless, we will continue with thoughts and prayers.

More praying in South florida. We have post transplant clinic this morning to check out Mikes latest surgery. Will spend the waiting time quietly reflecting on our members' journies

Liver disease is a rough journey. Prepare for a bumby ride.
