Steve - I'm new to this thread and have a question. How were you approved so easily by your insurance to receive Sovaldi? I thought the insurance companies would fight and stall due to the cost.
I found out last year that I've had HepC Type 2b for over 40 years but ALT only 46. I have time - but would like to get rid of this sooner than later. Is there anything I should know before we approach the insurance company? (Kaiser in CA).
Thanks - you seem to be doing great - hope it continues - will be reading.

Hi Bob C!
Fortunately there was no fight. It was approved just like anything else.
My Dr. just provided whatever info they needed.
They did require an HCV RNA test to be done and the results sent to them before approval. I did get initially put on hold pending them receiving that result being sent to them. But once it was, it was approved.
My doctor said that at that time he was getting others approved, too (as he knocked on wood).
He felt that they really had no basis to deny it, given that it is a clearly superior treatment. I think the whole world is aware of this at this point.
But you might want to try asap, because you never know when that might change. They may just be evaluating things at the moment.
Good luck and stay in touch!
Would love to see you start your own thread here, soon!
