Great news!

I had my 6 month checkup at MGH Transplant Clinic today. As of July 23, 2014 my new liver turns 5. My surgeon has me scheduled for am MRI next month. He said that's my last one, as they stop at 5 years. I will now have blood work done every 3 months and after this year it will go down to every 4 months. Also, I'll only have to travel to Boston once a year, instead of twice. I have now been undetectable for nearly 2 1/2 years.

In a way I worry. Being checked on monthly, and then bi monthly, I never worried that anything would go unnoticed. Now, set free to an extent, I am a little bit anxious, but trust that the awareness I've gained about my body will be sufficient to alert me if there's a problem. I do feel as good as anyone 64, who went through several serious medical issues can be. I work 40 or more hours a week setting tile and stone, along with writing 2 weekly columns for my local newspaper. I come home tired most days, but it's the good kind of tired.

**David** I think this is very exciting news. I understand how it would be a bit odd to go once per year after all one goes through with a transplant. Wonderful news you are undetectable for 2.5 years.

It is amazing for themister and me to hear stories like yours. Working and thriving at life on the other side of transplant is what we most desire for themister. I can not imagine how freeing it must be to have your new schedule.

Just know you give us so much hope as we battle toward transplant. Thank you for the wisdom only those who have gone there possess. It is more appreciated than you can imagine. Big Hugs,

I was fortunate to have a fantastic PCP, and then a top hepatologist at the #1 hospital in the country. They saved my life. I wish everyone had the care that was afforded me.

My back is bothering me, so I've forgotten about fewer visits and am thinking about finding a good chiropractor. HA!
