Rise In Bilirubin With Solvaldi And Olysio

Has anyone had a rise in bilirubin while on the Solvadi and Olysio combo. My husbands has been rising since starting his treatment. He was at 2.3 starting treatment 2.0 at two weeks now 3.3 at 4 week labs. Also his meld score is up to 14 from 12. After almost 5 weeks of treatment I thought that his meld score would of dropped down or stayed the same not increased. We haven't got his results back from his latest viral load yet hopefully that will be close to being cleared. His was 3,7000 starting treatment. AST and ALT are within normal range now but INR is 1.3. also platelet count is up to 68,000 low was 51,000. Any input would be helpful.

Hi mollygirl. Really happy to hear your husband now has normal ALT/AST. Good news for his treatment goal!

Is your husband on a transplant list? Can you remind me if your husband is cirrhotic and ESLD? I am not certain if the treatment would cause bili to increase. It may be due to the liver disease stage, not the treatment. Would you be able to give us more info on his liver disease? Thanks ;)

This may help some...My husband treated twice, obtaining SVR in July 2012. 6 months later he was told to get on a transplant list. And getting the Hep C treated is important, even if the liver is cirrhotic and a transplant is needed down the road.

Since your husband's doctor looks at bloods bi-weekly during treatment, he/she would let you know if anything looks concerning. Your husband's MELD would probably move about daily if the doc was pulling labs daily. When my husband was in hospital (several times ) and having daily bloods, his numbers moved up or down a point or two every day.... but most of his MELD's have been mid teens for over a year now.

I can usually tell if my guy's bili is up because I can see the mild jaundice.

No he is not on a transplant list or even been evaluated yet. He has cirrhosis and f-3 grade varcies which he takes a beta blocker and also has a portal vein blood clot. He also has a high ferritin level of 589 which the doctor is trying to find out what is causing that. He's had hepatitis c for at least 37 years. His bilirubin has always run around 1.6 until last Dec when it spiked to 2.1 when the portal blood clot was discovered. I just don't know what to make of all of this. I thought the hep c treatment would bring his numbers down which it has some of them but other ones seem to be shooting up. I also have noticed he's getting a little yellow on his white of his eyes. He talked to his doctor today and he said it might be the medication and he is not too concerned at this time. Thanks so much for your reply and I will post any new updates.

Some numbers go down. ALT and AST. And the viral load should go undetectable. During treatment, that is the goal in order to reach SVR.

Your husband has a lot going on with the PV clot and the high ferritin. I am surprised he has not been referred for a transplant eval. Is he being treated by a Hepa at transplant center and what does his Hepa say about transplant eval? I'm sure you are concerned. Take care, Big Hugs

He is being treated by a hepatologist at the Cleveland clinic. His doctor told him he is better off with the liver he has than getting a transplant for right now. His meld now is 14 and his child pugh is class b. So I guess we will just have finish the treatment and see what happens. Hopefully his numbers will come down after treatment is over with. Thanks again its nice to have someone to talk to.

     hi mollygirl,   olysio can cause mild to moderate billi elevation in some patients.  here is the link;

   then scroll down to section labeled Metabolic.  i used a PI. also and had a rise in billi.  after tx, it resolves.  hope this helps
