Husbands latest labs after 8 weeks on sovaldi and olysio

Think about this like a chemo. The drugs are attacking the HCV virus instead of a cancer. And it seems like his liver function tests are improving, so the liver is doing better. As with a regular chemo regimen, the patient's body is being assaulted by a drug that kills viruses and the kidneys and bloods take a hit. At least he isn't losing his hair and throwing up day and night. He may be a bit tired, but I bet for a guy taking an antiviral he feels pretty good!!!!! It is worth it to rid himself of HEP C.

I am assuming that he is pretransplant...so he is a sick guy.

Folks who are transplanted when clear of the virus have a much better prognosis long term than folks who carry the virus into their new life.

Mike is 3 years post TP and he has signficant HCV caused damage in his nice new liver.

My husband is also on the same treatment and his levels are a little out of whack as well. My husband is also diabetic and his blood sugar levels have been all over the place the last couple of weeks. We have spoke to the treatment team and they said that it's not abnormal for your labs to be a little whacky. I agree with ML that it's like a chemo and your body is working hard to do what it needs to do to fight the virus. We've also notice more of a body odor/liver sweat smell in the last couple of week and that he is bruising easier.....Thank goodness this treatment is short and hopefully with a undetected outcome!!

One of the side effects from the medication is irritability and I will say my husband has a little of that as well... and sometimes so do I..... :)

What is his viral load?

hi mollygirl, these new txs are so new, that its hard to say at what point you have to be und. these txs stop the ability for the virus to replicate. so hopefully, any virus still detectable cant replicate. if they cant replicate, they die off. that is just theory. as far as his labs are concerned, the only real change is his WBC. my wbc went as low as 1.5 during tx. as long as his absolute neutrophils stay above 1,000, infection is not a big risk. keep the faith!!! best to you two

Well for once my husbands isn't too concerned with his lab numbers. He went out in our garage to get a tool and reached inside the cabinet and got bit by a big old mangy looking raccoon. Come to find out it was hanging around local grocery store down the street from where we live and acting quite strange. It was laying down on some bread racks and wouldn't leave just started hissing and snarling at the workers. They finally shook it off the racks and it sort of stumbled over to a cardboard box and went to sleep. This was all in broad daylight I might add. The store called the cops and they chased it off and it ran down the street in our garage and the rest is history. He is on his way to the hospital to get some sort of pre-rabies shot whatever that means. I hope he can get the series of rabies shots on the solvaldi olysio combo as when the raccoon was killed it was accidently shot in the head and the police said now it cant be tested. As Roseanna Dana would say its always something! We are still in shock and cant believe this has happened it seems all most unreal like what are the chances of this happening.

We live in a little town of about 12,000 and the police and fire stations are only a block away. Within 2 mins a police car, ambulance and fire chief pulled into our driveway with lights flashing and sirens blaring we both started laughing, we just couldn't help it. This is big stuff for our little town. Anyway he is going to be fine and that's the most important thing the humor we found in this was much needed. He went to the hospital and received his first series of shots which hurt like heck. They shot two of them directly in the bite marks and two in the arm. Also put him on an antibiotic for ten days because they said infection was a big concern. We will also follow up with his doctor Tues and let him know what is going on.
