I am 55F, type 2, getting ready to start the new treatment! I am excited to begin, more excited than scared of the treatment. My treatment team told me that being happy and doing things that make you happy are really important to this treatment. I have a really positive outlook and it's been helpful to see the posts of those who are being treated. I'm not sure how I got the virus, could be a tattoo, could be the few things I tried in my youth when I was in the experimental stage. Either way, I don't use drugs and only drink socially, fortunate to have no permanent liver damage only stage 2 moderate fibrosis.
The Ribavirin is ready to be picked up at the pharmacy, but waiting for the Sovaldi to come in from the specialty RX. It should arrive Monday or Tuesday.
Thanks to all of you who have posted, it helps me to get an idea of what to expect once I begin treatment! Aloha! yeah

Always great news when we meet another dragon slayer. Welcome!!

Riba/Solvaldi with geno 2 should be 12 weeks, correct? Those I have followed have had tolerated treatment swimmingly. One thing I can think of.... increase the water to keeps sides at bay. Some have some itch, or rash. Quite a few folks started Omeprazole, which you may already take. Honestly, not much like the old treatment side fx at all.

You have a good attitude and will do just fine. Would love to see your viral load start numbers, the drops, and as you complete treatment. Again, welcome to our part of Healing Well. Big Hugs

Thanks, everyone. It's strange, I've asked about my viral load, but my GP doctor seems to quickly answer and then move on. He says it doesn't mean anything. I believe he said it was in the 3MM. I will ask the treatment coordinator when she calls me this week.
I do already take opmeprazole and some other meds that have a side affect of dry mouth. I will have to be diligent about the water. I quit drinking soda and now drink mostly water with occasional ice or hot tea. Any suggestions for the rash? My GI doc said she has only had three patients on this regiment and one did develop a rash.

I antcipate the Sovaldi will be in Monday or Tuesday, the Rib is already at the phamacy. Have a great evening!

Picked up my meds tonight! 400 mg Sovaldi and 1200 mg Ribavirin (600 mg x 2 )per day. I start tomorrow, think happy thoughts!

I began treatment on Wednesday. I hadn't realized I had so much anxiety about what to expect. So far so good. I'm on 400 mg Sovaldi and 1200 mg Ribavirin. I did learn that my VL is 2,260,000, down from 3mm last year. Side affects so far are fatigue, it was pretty bad on Friday, better today. Slight acidy stomach and occasional headache. I'm kind of itchy today. Any suggestions for the itching? All in all, not bad. Some nights really tired and last night trouble sleeping. All in all not bad!

new to this forum. Have had hepc for over 30 years geno2a. Have done all the past interferon treatments bad side effects and all only to relapse. Started sovaldi riba in april 2014 and after 2 weeks went from high liver functions and 2 million viral load to undetectable and almost normal lfts. still undetectable and good lfts after6 week tests This treatment has some minor side effects for me but very tolerable.Some of the sides are achy legs, acidy stomach, some difficulty sleeping and fatigue, but compared to interferon treatments this is very easy to tolerate! Hope to finally get rid of the hep c ad give my liver a rest. Great support from reading the posts in this forum. Good luck to all

Thanks for all the support. paulyme, thanks for the feedback. sammaanthac, sending positive thoughts your way! Day three, I was exhausted. I slept really hard all morning and felt better in the afternoon. I felt great on day 4, but I am mildly fatigued today-day 5. I am having restless sleep at night. I was pretty active yesterday and today, more so than usual...so we will see if that affects how I feel tomorrow!
All in all, feeling much better than I anticipated! Just glad to be started and thinking good thoughts!

Hi LA,

I managed my side effects (I call them imaginary sides) by taking the doses of Sovaldi and Riba at 7AM and Riba at 5pm. Had a little fatigue and sleep disruption during the first three weeks (a 2 on a scale of 10). After day 30 or so I had no side effects at all. Hence imaginary. At day 57 - but who's counting anymore.

I hope your time is as easy as mine! Go about your day as usual. If you feel tired just force yourself to do something and your energy will come back! And keep writing.

I am surprised you have itchies this soon. Be sure to drink half your body weigh in oz. of water per day. (example...If you are 100 lbs. then you will drink 50oz of water per day). The water is important! It helps with side fx. Big Hugs
