What does this mean:
"Without definite washout..."
Does it mean there IS washout
Or
Does it mean there is NOT washout?

The word 'definite' is actually confusing me. A simple sentence and it has me totally confused... Ugh!

I assume this refers to an CT or MRI report and is in the contrast enhancement section of the report. Can you be more specific in the context since this has a direct bearing as to it's meaning? Not to worry you, but the temporary sequencing of the signal intensities within cirrhotic nodules (if this is the case) can be very informative but this also means different things within focal or diffuse liver regions as well.

Folks, a tiny word of caution from a humble lay person....we are sharing information about our stories, but we do not pretend to be doctors, or to provide diagnoses/prognoses. Even sharing technical information should be couched in language that leaves all decisions about a diagnosis or treatment plan to the member's physicians. Just don't want to get into any trouble with the management here! Thanks, Carol

I am NOT looking to get a diagnosis...that's what Doctors are for. Just looking for help with what exactly that sentence means. I feel that having the word 'definite' almost negates the word 'Without'. Just looking for clarification. Our doctor has already giving us their diagnosis. I am just questioning the way the sentence is structured. I hope I am making sense, myself :-)

One thing to consider is to "whom" the pathologist/radiologist is addressing in the report. So I take it that he's trying to communicate to the clinician (your doctor) that what he sees isn't as pronounced as might be expected - for any particular pathology - so in short, kinda fuzzy. That's the thing to remember about these reports, that our viewing pleasure isn't typically considered, it's the clinician's need to act and do something for his patient that is. I hope this helps.

It certainly seems that this site is a bit soft or leery about technical discussions. That's a shame. Whether someone wishes to take that as a "diagnosis" of sorts shouldn't get in the way of being able to have a in-depth discussion about the various details involved in our medical treatments. Our own doctor's certainly tend to leave us with a vague sense of what's up far too often, and discussing these details with friends or knowledgeable others is/would be a wonderful thing to be able to do. I'll take the hint of previous others and bow out myself from any future engagements.
