Alberta Canadian needs help funding Hep C treatment.

Thank you so much for responding. I have looked into things in Alberta and too date, unless you have a benefits carrier through your company, you are SOL. There has been rumour that 3-4 provinces, including Alberta may look at coverage down the road but at present......Nada..... Thanks for the advice, I will look into Gilead. If I hear of any changes coming down the pipe, I certainly will get them on this discussion sight so others may benefit as well. Take care and best success to any who are currently on a program.. Hello and Thank you to "Gift from God" and TheMiz. I received an email today from GA M who reminded me I should stay focused on this particular forum more often as the replies from Canada would be very supportive. Thank you GA M for that. I too have been on 2 previously unsuccessful interferon programs. The first a needle every second day plus Riba. Took for the full program and no success whatsoever. 2nd time, needles just once/week and Riba......................same result, no success.

My understanding is the Solvaldi and now this Horvani are both extremely successful and don't rack the body nearly as badly as the interferon treatment did. My wife's benefit plan does not cover the Solvaldi and of course Horvani is not available in Canada just yet. Hope I got the drugs spelling right?? By the way, If I haven't said it before, please allow me to say this now.................To all those who have this disease and those who provide support for loved ones with this disease, THANK YOU, THANK YOU THANK YOU for this forum. On the outside anyone who doesn't know you or the disease you are carrying, do not know the day to day suffering you go thru. All the precautions you have to take and the sometimes Guilty feelings you have regardless of how you caught this disease. This forum allows those with Hep C to communicate in an intimate way with others who completely understand your day to day concerns. I for one, as so greatful for all your support. I have a Specialist who I can email directly and to my surprise this Dr. returns my emails. She is doing everything she can to get approval from our Province of Alberta for coverage. Let's keep our fingers crossed and also that someday the price will drop to an affordable level whereby all with Hep C will benefit. Sorry for the long email..............but thank you too

Dear Waman! I am from canada too and I think that Horvani was approved in canada 3 days ago. Contact Momentum!!! But this drug is only for tipe 1. And it is mostly Europeans. I was fighting for my med's like a lioness. Try compatione case with galexis company and try to avoid interferon, cose it is very toxic. Good luck, do not surrender! Doluska

I'm in the same boat in Alberta - Edmonton area. My coverage is Alberta Works which is the lowest of the low for coverage ... it's for folks with very fixed income. So my wait may be long. I think we need to wait until drug companies they have made their billions back ... or some other drugs come along to compete ... then it may drop in price. Apparently now they're focusing on trying to cure Hep B so perhaps the wait won't be that long as they lose interest in this one.

It's amazing to me how many doctors (not necessarily hepatologists) have never heard of anything beyond interferon ribavirin. My hepatologist is doing everything humanly possible to get me on a program of some sort before HE takes my mind completely (very unstable at present). It's a dangerous waiting game which we hear about quite often in Canada now. People dying waiting for treatment for many types of illness ... the treatments are available, but there's a lack of surgeons or a lack of funds, or ... or.

Wow I sound like a downer ... actually things are not that bad for me right now. I have a better support group than I've had for years. I've found more tools to deal with HE even though I live alone and my hepatologist's office is very proactive in this regard. Life is still good.

I'd fight harder for the drug but I don't have the energy or heart for it.
