HVC Meds (Sovaldi and Ribavirin)

Unless your liver is becoming cirrhotic, waiting a month shouldn't be a problem.

Either you believe in your doctor, or you don't. I trusted mine and things worked out well. Do you trust your doc to look out for you? If not, get another.

It is frustrating the doctor want's you to wait. I wonder what the consult is for now that you have you labs and the RX?

The doctor's office once had to show you how to inject yourself... so the first dose was in the office. I can not see the reason, either. It would frustrate me, too! Compliance is important in today's world of medicine. I would have to say as frustrating as it is...I would wait. I have heard the GI's and Hepa' s are much busier with so many people wanting to treat, or treating Hep C with the new meds.

Hang in there and keep in touch as you go through treatment. Someone here has likely been through whatever may happen. Drink a lot of water to help with the sides of riba, and have a little something fatty when you take the meds. Big Hugs

And another angle...

What if you are in the smalll percent that get side effects and need help....who will you call to fess up that you are taking the meds before they set up a protocol and maybe a nurse practitioner who will give you a special 24 hour treatment hotline number....they may have this all worked out. Our folks have needed meds for anxiety, nausea, skin stuff...and some have had to change regimens mid stream for one reason or another.

I vote for waiting and following the doc's lead here.

Hi Conan- I understand your frustration completely. I assume that you have checked to see if a nurse practitioner could meet with you just to provide you with instructions and have you begin the medication before seeing the doctor. Also-- keep calling and asking the office staff nicely to advise you if there is a cancellation. They may give you an appointment if you bother them enough. I would suggest changing doctors but getting records transferred and securing an appointment with a new dr. will probably take longer then waiting until Feb. I also have waited many months to begin treatment because I had to appeal three times to get my insurance company to pay for the medication and also changed doctors (my Dr.'s office kept messing up my labs. )
Even if you need to wait until February, continue to get the next rounds of medications as soon as you can so that your authorization does not run out.
In the meantime, I also have Geno 2 and will be starting tomorrow on 12 weeks of Sovaldi and Ribavirin!!- Before you begin your treatment I will let you know all of the things that helped me-- hopefully this will be beneficial to you?!
Try to enjoy each day without side effects in the meantime.

Hi Conan- Thanks for your good wishes and support. All went well today so far. Looking for side effects but felt like I do most days so no complaints. Will start a new chat if I have specific questions or think that my experience will be helpful to others. February is close by and you will be so ready and appreciative that it will give you an especially positive attitude and ability to beat this disease.
