So sorry this happened and you got such a scare. Thank heaven for decent healthcare here in North America...(at least for the most part).
Agree with others re: AIH. I would just add that AIH, like all autoimmune diseases/conditions have inflammation as a common denominator...of course, many, many other disease processes do as well.
The point being that inflammation is loosely tied to cardiovascular events such as a PE and as such is considered a risk factor under certain conditions.
I suspect your trip from Ontario to Vancouver may ultimately, be what tipped the scales against you.
Whether by air or car, a "roughly" 2000 mile trip is a major player in risk factors for a PE.
I hope they gave you a "laundry list of do's and don'ts as well as solid follow-up instructions.
When traveling there a several helpful tips, such as...do not sit for extended periods of time, particularly with your knees bent. Get up, move around the plane a bit or stop the car every couple of hours and take a short walk.
Here's a quick and dirty overview of pulmonary embolism from the Mayo Clinic.
The link should load on "prevention", but there's a column of subcategories on the left for more info.

I looked over your posts and I'm guessing you don't have a diagnosis of portal or pulmonary hypertension, but these, as well as other risk factors should be addressed by your doc.
Just my 2 cents. Best of luck.
