removing the source of inflamation is the key.. by stopping drinking, curing your hep b or c, healthy diet w/exercise, and a mind set to live healthy. then your liver can heal.. one of the livers job is to regenerate itself.

in my case, my dr started hcc surveillance with ultrasound when portal vein became fibrous. in 2012 i cured my hep c, and a year later my ultrasounds got better. so i asked for a fibroscan.
It showed that my liver had reversed the fibrosis.

if your liver starts to harden(shrink), those areas will remain scarred.

Blood work that is out of range for liver enzymes or function will lead to hep panels and a ultrasound. This can reveal viral hepatitis, or liver fibrosis. A ct scan will give you more detail. If your scan reveals fatty liver, it can be reversed.

Your doctors team should walk you thru the program for fatty liver.
The treatment is life style changes. No drinking, and a healthy diet, and weight loss(if necessary) usually succeed.

Thank you for sharing your story with me and appreciate all the information and inspiration you have given me. I'm amazed at your
story and saw where you took something called Inferon? Is that something specifically for hep c or cirrhosis treatment? Is it a standard in treatment? Also, was there anything else you did such as eating healthy...I.e. fish, chicken (no red meat), broccoli, spinach,, bananas, blue berries, fresh organic or canned(or not)
Supplements? Juice? Also, I noticed that exercise keeps being mentioned and wonder if it helps to regenerate cells?

@ ppm guy I'm a bit confused. When you say you 'got healthy,' do you mean your blood tests were normal? Can you have normal blood tests and have cirrhosis? Or did the cirrhosis come on suddenly?

Also @ ppm guy. Do you know if a ct scan findings(without contrast)
with the findings as "unremarkable" for the liver means "no cirrhosis"?

I used to have an occassional 3-6 beers through the week/weekend.
Then in 2014-2015 I upped that to include 2-3 days of the week and drank on the 3 day weekend I had(6-9)on each those days.

In Nov 2015 I took Ill with respiratory system issues (pleurisy they think) and laid off of any beer totally, then in Jan & Feb had a couple weekend beer binges (3-6) and one night had 1/2 bottle red wine and it made my arms itch...scared the crap out me, due to my fears that I compromised my liver. Since that time, I may have had a total of 6 beers in the following 3 months (no itching with beer just wine). Then during Memorial Day weekend, I splurged with greasy wings and 2 beers, that evening I started experiencing some discomfort at my sternum and a little to the right, sometimes the pain would go into my back. So, I went to my doctor and she said my GERD was acting up and told me to go back on my Omeprasile for a month. I told her about my past drinking and that it concerned me. I had a CBC and Comp Panel done and my Alt, Ast, Bilirubin etc. came out fine and the doctor said I didn't have what I expected, which was Cirrhosis By the blood test results. She sent me for a ct scan which revealed a small amount of air and turns out that I had a perforated ulcer that they think sealed itself back off.
I've been on Naproxen off and on for two years, took it up to 3 times a week, but went off it and went on a daily aspirin, which they think caused the ulcer to begin with. Been on antibiotics twice a day for two weeks now and Prilosec 2x a day. The ongoing pain has greatly diminished.I just have a hard time believing all those pains can come from an ulcer or two.
