My husband has Cirrhosis of the Live and Hep C. 

If anyone has a spouse or family member they are taking care, I would encourage you to go to this site. They are very nice people. And they will help you get through it.

Husband has been sick since 2001. He passed out cutting wood. That is when they found the hep c then the cirrhosis. He has very low plalette count, he is very jaundice, he unrin is very dark due to the billyrubins. He holds alot of fluid in his feet, legs and ankles. His stomach is very large and he has gained allot of weight. He gets very stiff in his back and in some pain. His legs itch allot. He does manage to work, but it is begining to be very hard.

He is loosing some work due to this and has no sick days left. He only gets 3 days per year.

I think that sxxks! It use to  be 6 days. Any way if any one can relate or help me please do.

I am very worried about him. 2 years ago he was a 14 on the MELD score, to become a candidate for a new liver. He is getting bladder infections and bronchitus allot. He sleeps allot and is very tired. He has not had any alcohol for 2o years now.

Donajean, thanks for popping in. Is your hubby seeing a hepatologist or GI doc? Do you think he might be eligible for a transplant at this time?

He is not seeing a hepatologist at this time. He has a few times. I just don't know if he is eligible for a liver.
He only goes to the Dr. if he hurting very bad or holding too much fluid and he can't get rid of it, or a bladder infection, that sort of thing. I am very worried about him..............

Hi Donajean,Welcome to the forum. You will find some great people in here to for support & try to help you with your questions.I don't have hep c but I do have cirhosis.If hubby is getting infections & has a low platelet count in addition to being so tired he probably shouldn't be working. Can you talk to your Dr. about putting him on some kind of disability benifit? It is very important he get proper care for liver disease . Special diet,meds, ultra sounds,blood work etc. Your hubby really does need to see a hepatologist.My heart & prayers go out to you & your hubby. Has he had LF yet ?later....

Thank you! Yes he needs to be on disability. He refuses!! He is a great man and a hard worker. He does have a good attitude. But here lately he doesn't act just right. He gets forgetfull and doesn't ask about the bills and things he use to ask about. and he sleeps alot. I will talk to the Dr. tomorrow

You must be a strong gal! You know you were talking about taking so much tylenol. I have osteoarthritus very bad as well as ddd, djd, and a buldging disk, L4 & L5. I am taking propoxyphene-N 100. This is davorcetes. How many could I take a day without hurting my liver? I also take somas and Xanx0.5mg twice a day. May the Good Lord be with you Lerie. You seem like a sweet person. Take Care

Hi Donajean,Hubby's judgement won't be the best right now so maybe you could write down all your questions & hubby's questions before going to the doc. This way you won't forget anything you want to ask also you might want to do this with his symptoms as he may not even be aware of some of them. I'd like to suggest something here & you can do as you please with this but maybe if you talk to him from the view point that you appreciate the fact he's a hard worker & wonderfull provider but he's also your hubby & you want him to rrest & take care of himself because you want to keep him around for a long time. Also it takes time for disability to be processed(where I live 3months to a year)Ask him if he ends up in hospital or something what then. He needs his strength & rest that is so important.You asked what LF is, That is liver failure.The fewer pain pills you can get by with the better. I have arthritis & a slipped L4 disk & other problems & because I didn't get myself better informed about my prescriptions I cannot have anything for pain , I can't even take anything for a cold.Sweetie please go on line & talk to pharmacists,Dr.s about the effects each drug has on your liver.There is a lot of info out there if we look for it.Also be carefull with all drugs including sedatives,muscle relaxants& especially benzodines. ,Tylonal, Narcotics. Did you know even a lot of cough syrups contain narcotics?Never take extra of anything or exceed dosages.Thankyou for all your kind words.You sound like a very nice person to! Donajean, I can tell you that Soma is bad for the liver if taken on a prolonged basis. It's the first thing I was taken off of when the hepatitis was discovered. When I was found to have liver cancer in May '05, I was taken off hormone replacement therapy.

Hey girl, this is Tawnya, THANK YOU for showing me this site...It is wonderful. I have to ask though, do you guys still have insurance? If so, you should consider taking Tony to my hubbys Dr. he is WONDERFUL! Also... There is a pain medicine they have my hubby on, very easy on the liver, larry has been on it for 2 years now. It is called Oxy IR. Its Oxycodone Imeadiate Release, goes straight in and absorbs, less work on the liver. You should try & get that for tony! Anyway, if you would like me to set Tony up an appointment with our Doc just let me know... I will be there on Tuesday & Friday this week for follow ups after Larrys Allergic Reaction the other day. Hi Tawny, oxycodene,no way. thats one of the pain meds that got my liver!When it absorbs in so well Its the liver it is absorbing into !

Lerie, the med Oxycodene & Oxycodone IR are different meds all together... Oxy IR is commonly prescribed to patients with Hep C, we did ALOT of research on this drug before we agreed to take it. OxyCodene like you are talking about, is FULL of tylenol... Oxy IR has NONE. My husband has been on it for over two years now. When I was in Oklahoma while my daddy died of HepC I told the Doctors what my husband was on & they agreed with me & then gave my daddy the same thing. Honestly, if it werent for Oxy IR my hubby would have gave up already!

Hey Tawyna!

Welcome aboard! Glad to see you here. Lots of great folks here. Yes we have Inc. We can only see the Dr that is on the List. Tony loves this Doc, he has been seeing for several years now. He said he would drive 2 hours to see her. I like her as well. She does get hesitant to give him pain meds espeicially narcs cause she said when it's time for a Liver Transplant they won't touch him. You can't be on any narcs or smoke! She does give him darvons and every now and then somas. He hardly ever takes somas, but darvons he takes every day. I don't think Tony is in alot of pain, just alot of stiffness and occasional pain in the feet, ankles, legs and back. Oxy IR , what is that for???

This week all of the fluid that was in Tony's ankles, feet and legs are gone. He has been resting allot, he does feel much better. He did hurt his knee on the job so he will out of work for 3 days this week. And he will go to the PT. Now this could change from day to day with him. He does feel better when he is not working so darn hard, like installing fireplaces and getting up on roofs to put in a chimney. That's too much for him to be as sick as he is. He has his good and bad days. Seems like more bad days as time goes by.

Agian I am so sorry about your Daddy! I am still praying for you all. Glad your here. You will get allot of great information and the gals and guys here are so sweet, especially that Valerie :)!They have really helped me out!

Donna, glad to know tony is feeling better this week. The Oxy IR is for pain, Im not sure what Darvons are, do you mean darvocets? They & somas are real bad. I will email you again later, maybe we can have dinner soon. Talk to ya later.

Thanks for the response. He is taking darvons, they are like darvocets just without the tylenol. Yup lets have dinner soon!Talk to you later, gonna go to bed, as I have to get up at 5am and drive about 55 minutes to McGavock High School. Yup you were right, although the Principal has straightened allot of kids up it still is rough.
The class I am in is very sad! A blind boy, and some crack babies :( I am over one on one with a Retts syndrome girl!

Lerie, My husband is seeing a well known hepatologist here in Nashville TN.  I know what you are thinking about the drug but what I meant is, Oxycodene has acetaminophen in it. It is hard on your liver, as is anything with acetaminophen. The Oxy IR doesnt have it. It also absorbs into your body as soon as it hits, there is less risidual left overs to process.

Hi Tawny Sorry,I do know what your talking about but everything ingested,breathed or put on skin is absorbed by the liver & that is a narcotic & tylonal has nothing to do with it.I was on both as my dependancy for narcotics increased , I was switched from the one with tylonal to the one without tylonal & a whole lot more, that's why I know it's a narcotic.Take care later....

donna please be care ful with the oxy's although effective they are addictive. i got addicted to percacet same thing . it was hard on the liver once i detoxed really set me back .i have been living with hep for 11 yrs. now so take care of hubby any narcotics are not good.............stardust
