hello my name is michael and i am 45 yrs old i was in the service in 1978-1981 in the army spent time overseas and i ams trying to prove military service connection for contracting hep c since it was diagnosed by the veterans hospital back in 2004 and i am being treated for it by the va however as we all know the wheels of government are slower than molasses in january i have a claim into the va for compensation

Hi!  Do you have any reason to believe you contracted hep C while in the military?  I assume you are aware that hep C can take 20-30 years to show up in the body or to develop symptoms.  Are you getting treatment?

the reason that i believe that i contracted hep c is that is the only time in my life that i have been exposed to the conditions where hep c can be contracted, never snorted coke never used a needle never visited a working girl

Have you seen a lawyer yet? That would be my next move. However, be aware that suing the govt. (whether city, state, or federal) is very difficult.

its difficult and frustrating but i have been working on it for almost 2 years now

My fiance was also treated through the VA. We looked into the situation back in 2003-2004.

The US military / government has determined that HCV will not be covered as service-related.

Approximately, 80% of those with HepC are military veterans. If the government were to determine that HCV infection was service-related (and they did briefly), the expense would be astronomical. My personal opinion is that the ruling will not be changed, for that reason.

However, as a veteran, you are entitled to medical care at any VA facility. There are a number of websites by veterans, for veterans providing information about dealing with the red-tape and getting treatment.
