Hello everyone,

Great news to report.  I am now a grandmother.  We have a baby girl - Leila May, born August 30th,  8 1/2 lbs (3.78 kg) and 20 inches (50cm).  and guess what.  She's beautiful!!! 

Mum, baby and dad doing well! and the proud grandparents are jumping for joy.

wooooooooooohooooooooo marg!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! soooo glad things went well for them all,,,,,,,,i thought about starting this thread after i went to bed last night,was gonna start it myself this morning ,,,,,,,,,what a wonderful thing to hear firt thing in the morning:) enjoy your granddaughter (as im sure you will) and take care marg:)

Congrats, Marg! That's a big baby! Enjoy her!

Edited to add my own update:  Looks like I will have either liver resection on the 25th of this month, or hip reconstruction on the 26th.  The 2 surgeons were going to discuss it, and hopefully I will find out what they decide this coming week.

Congrats Marg.....god bless your family and your new granddaughter!  How precious!  God's little angel!

Connie:  Hope all goes well with whatever is decided for your surgery.  You will be in my thoughts and prayers.  Keep us posted.

Robert is having blood work done to see how his liver function is doing.  He has an appt on 9/8 for the results.  Keep your fingers crossed that all is well.  I'm a little worried because there for a while he was real thin and skinny and now he is picking up some weight.  I hope it is not anything like ascites or fluid ac***ulation.  I guess we'll see.  Then on 9/18 he will have a varice banding procedure done.  We hope all goes well with that. 

Otherwise, things seem to be pretty stable.  Our daughter is doing well in school so far.  She won a coloring contest at the school book fair last week so she was real happy about it.

I hope everyone is doing well and taking care of yourselves and your loved ones.  We all have good and bad times in our life and we just have to remember that we have support for one another here at the forum.   As always, you all are in my thoughts and prayers.

Congrats Marge and family.  Sounds like you're a very proud grandma.. :-)

Not bad here.  The college is starting to slow down a little. 

Went to the fair 2 weeks ago and got food posion.  I was in the er for a few hours and sick for a week.  I thought maybe it was withdrawl from the meds and it happened on a Friday.... yeah when i always did my shots.....My doc said your body is very high risk when your in crowds to catching something, or like other people that ate the same as I did and they didn't get as sick as i did. But I'm doing better now.

Went back on the tread mill last week for the first time in 4 months. felt good and my energy is coming back...... tongue

Hope everyone is doing ok.  Just taking time and doing work around the house. and hopefully I can put it up for sale in march..

connie,hope all goes well,good to hear from ya eileen:) rick isnt havin a good day today,,,,heart dr says,his heart is functioning at 30 percent at best,and wont get better,,,,,,told him hes permanently totally disabled as of today,so at least maybe no more fighting for ss?? we ll see, take care all :hugs:

Trish, have the doc put that in writing on his letterhead, and send it to your lawyer to file with other paperwork.

Good Luck Trish with the ss for Rick. Do as Connie says, it will help a great deal.

Hi Everyone,

Things are still very hectic here, but I want you all to know I think of you everyday!

My dad is still doing fairly well right now.  He is strong, and mentally he seems to be clear.  Our trip to the therapist went shocking well.  We were all very happy that my dad responded and wants to continue.  He was cleared by the cardiologist which was our big hurdle.(That was why he was rejected from UMDNJ)  I was just so relieved.  Also they tapped him on Friday 9 liters and they hope to have him listed in the next week or two.  We have had a good couple of weeks and I hope it continues.  Mt.Sinai has been a wonderful experience so far.  Not what we have been use to in the past.  It's very refreshing to have Dr.s who are sympathetic. 

Again, I hope everyone is doing well.  Teresa, I miss chatting.  Thanks for thinking of me.  Give my best to Mark.  I hope you get that call soon!  Warm wishes to all!

P.S. My dad ever felt well enough to come see our new house. He did very well.  I am so proud of him.

Wonderful news, Samantha!! Mt. Sinai is a great hospital. I know exactly what you mean by it being a wonderful experience, unlike others. I feel that way about Mayo.

I do have to say that I'm a bit confuzzled right now, as the liver surgeon and ortho surgeon got together to discuss my case and have decided I should have the hip surgery first. Since there is only very little cancer left in the area of the tumor, I suppose they are thinking they can give me another cancer treatment after the hip surgery. Anyway, the reconstructive surgery will be on Sept. 26th. I have a lot of pre-op testing the prior week. After I'm discharged from the hospital, I may be sent to a rehab facility. Medicare also pays for a certain number of PT visits at home, as well as some nursing visits.

Samantha, I'm very pleased to hear things are going so well. Please keep us posted!

Connie, I am so glad to hear you have a date for the hip!  You must be happy to be moving forward!  It's wonderful you will be doing PT.  I bet you can't wait to dance around again! haha

Haha is right! I was told that the left hip will never be "right," but if I can just get rid of the hip/leg brace for good, I'll be thrilled. PT is an absolute necessity after hip surgery, to stretch out the muscles and tendons, and break down scar tissue. It gives me chillls just to think about everything they have to cut through to get to the femoral head and acetabulum. But my main concern right now is my cats. I have to get someone to come in every day and feed them and "scoop the poop." I will probably end up hiring a neighbor who has done this before for me. He got lazy at one point, though, about cleaning the cat pan.

I will miss everyone while I'm gone, but in the meanwhile I'll be checking in.

Connie, so glad you have the date for hip. I'll be praying for you.

Good news from the heptologist today. 2.5mg reduction in my Prednisone, down to 10mg. He warned me that it's at this point that my liver enzymes have gone haywire three times before but I'm feeling confident the chinese medicine combined with acupuncture and lower meds will continue to see an improvement.

I was so excited about my results. Next port of call was what i thought was a routine eye check. Unfortunately my macula degeneration (left eye) seems to have deteriorated considerably. My right eye is OK. I'm seeing a retina specialist in a few weeks to see if there's anything they can do or whether i just wait to have no sight in the left eye.

Marg, I am smiling and doing a little jig in my mind!  You know how I hate Prednisone, because of the awful sides, so I'm thrilled that you've had yours decreased.  I hope your enzymes don't go haywire!!

Sorry about the macular degeneration.  I knew someone who had a really bad case of that and he was on disability.  His was in both eyes.  I will pray that yours stabilizes.

Thanks for your kind words Connie and trish. I've got my fingers crossed for both positive results. Liver tests to remain good despite the reduction in Prednisone and some form of treatment to slow or stop the macula degeneration. I am very fortunate it is only in one eye. I know a couple of elderly ladies who are almost blind as a result of this disease.
