I have a story to tell

Ok,,,some of you know that me and my hubby are waiting on his ss to be approved,,its been well over a year and ss is waiting for the latest test results from Ricks heart dr before sending the case to the panel for a decision(which hopefully will be yes),,in the meantime financially we have been living from day to day,,,,I cant even work or Ricks medicaid will be taken away or at the very least a huge spenddown,,,,,,well,our rent is now higher since we moved,plus we have an extra 200 to pay with our rent the first 3 mths,this being the 3rd mth,so things have been TOUGH to say the least,,,,,,the rent is due tomorrow,,800,,,well I had to return an early xmas present my mom bought us when she was here a couple weeks ago,(i did tell her this,she said do what you have to do),plus,we were facing having to um,,jungle our food stamps just to make sure to pay the rent,,,,doesnt do much to have food and no roof over your head to keep the fridge,,,we have been on edge ,,extremely,but we had worked it out how to do it,though much was being sacrificed,,,,,,on top of this,,,,we took my cousin and her 2 children in,who had no decent place to go,and we just took them in,no questions asked,for we feel that so many have helped us,if we can we are going to give back,,,,,wellllll,,,,,,,,,this morning i called to see how much child support i will recieve on my debit card today,normally its 206 a week,,,,,and this morning,God was watching over us my friends,,,,I am recieving 888,,,,,,,my ex must have developed a conscience(spelling?),,,,and decided to pay a chunk on his arrearages,,,I do believe that God moved his hand,because this is NOT how he normally is,,,,,,I immediately started to cry with relief and amazement,,,,,that we are so fortunate,,,,i even had to call back and let my daughter ,husband and cousin listen to the amount on the recording,,,,,I looked at Rick and my daughter and said,see,we sacrifice and do what we can and God takes care of us,,,,my cousin walked by and patted me on the shoulder and said,,,this is the good coming back to you for taking me and my children in when you have so many problems yourself,,,,,,Im sitting here at the pc crying my eyes out as I type this,,,,,I hope this story revives someones strength,or at least puts a smile on someones face today,,,,,take care all and thanks so much for being here and being part of what gives me strength to get through these tough times,,,,:hugs:

Trish, God does for us what we cannot do for ourselves. I think he tests our faith to the very limits, and then steps in at the time it is most needed. I have been in your shoes, more than once, even before AVN. Hang in there. God bless you.

Hi Trish, yes our dear lord will always take care of us. You just have to have faith even on the hard days. In fact, that's when you need it the most. Hopefully his SS will be approved soon! Robert and I were in the same situation as I'm sure most everyone is or has been at one time or another on this forum. I am lucky enough to work at a great place for one but I also to have wonderful co-workers and so did Robert when he was working before he became ill with his liver disease. Robert belonged to the Laborer's Union. All his union brothers and co-workers made a collection for him while he was in/out of the hospital, so that saved for a few months, then one of the guys I work with is with our local Knights of Columbus group and they actually had a benefit breakfast for my husband which family and friends had to sell tickets for, but eveyone did their part and really helped us out tremendously! So we had some help financially until Robert got approved for his SS in June and then was actually able to retire from the Laborer's Union, he had 15 years with the union, so he now collects both SS and retirement. I work full-time so we're both doing okay for the meantime, but we still have outstanding medical bills that we're trying to take care of that my insurance isn't paying for whatever reason. And of course, if he is a liver transplant candidate, who knows what sort of medical costs we'll have in the future. Maybe you can go to your local church or chamber of commerce and see where there is a Knights organization and they can help you through a benefit breakfast or dinner that can help you guys out financially. Robert ended making something like $3,500 and that really helped. The Knights help needy people and anyone who has a serious illness, you should check into it if you have time. Anyway..I'm glad things are looking a little better financially...Take Care......

Shel, thanks for the info on the Knights of Columbus. I finally got my SSD (and we get a 3.3% cost-of-living increase in Jan.) But who knows what the future might bring? I still have hep C and liver cancer to contend with, after a wonderfully successful hip joint reconstruction. While waiting for SS approval, my aunt supported me for 18 months--sent a check for basic bills each month, and I got food stamps. I am very grateful to her--told her she is covered for all future birthdays and Christmases for the rest of my life! :0

I know that Medicaid pays for transplants, if you qualify. They also have a Medically Needy program, which they have recently put me in, as I don't qualify for full Medicaid.
