What Do my results mean?

Hi. I'm new here. I've posted another thread tittled. "Borderline Heb B results,What does this mean?"
Since my doctor is referring me to a gastroenterologis (sp?) I have the paper work from my tests that she's given me to give to the doctor when I go for my visit. I don't understand all the results and what they mean how normal or high they are. I thought I would post them to see if any one can shed some light on these. ( Hope I'm listing the right stuff) Under the "Result column" Here it goes:

Glucose: 109.
Urea Nitrogen 12.
Creatinine .8
Sodium 143.
Potassium 4.2
Chloride106.
Carbon Dioxide 25.
Calcium 9.0
Total Protein 8.4

On another page of the results I have it says:

Under Test name it says:
Hepatitis panel, acute w reflex
Hepatitis A IGM antibody and to the side of that under "In Range it says Non Reactive"

Then again it says under test name:

Hepatitis B surface
Antigen w/Confirmation then it doesnt say anything under in range or out of range

But below the test name in a gray area it says

Hepatitis B surface and under Out of Range it says Borderline and under reference range it says non reatcive

And below all that it says

Antigen Confirmation Hepatitis B surface Antigen was confirmed as present by the neutralization assay.

Then it says Hepatitis B core IGM Antibody under in range "non reactive" and under reference range it also says none reactive.


Then it says Hepatitis C antibody
Hepatitis C Antibody
signal to be cut-off and it says non reactive under "in range" with a 0.06 under it and non reactive under "reference range"


Then it goes on to say"Iron and total Iron binding capacity
under "Iron,total" it says 36L under the out of range column and 40-175 mcg/dL

Then it says:
Iron Binding Capacity under "in range" 359 and under reference range it says 250-450 mcg/DL
and then
there is a line for %Saturation and it says 10L under out of range and 15-50% (calc) under reference range


Does anyone know what all this means? I'm a bit concerned about what the "Borderline Hep B" can mean?

Hi Shelly this is for you.  I am just frustrated.  Jerry's bood done on 2/23 when he was in the hospital Hemoglobin 9.7 hematocrit 27.7  Then blood work done on 2/27 at Vanderbilt was Hematocrit 26 and Hemoglobin 8.8.  That tells me its going down.  We go tomorrow to have blood work repeated.  He's really dragging butt!!!  I knew somethin didn't seem right.  It just this disease is so hard to keep up with.  They did test his stool in the hosptial.  If he is loosing blood where is it going.  He's not vomiting blood.  He doesn't have bloody noses.  Where would it go.  As usual I'm scared to death!!  Do you an opinion.

Hello, I'm_Jane_Doe, and welcome to the forum. I can not help you with any information but it looks like the others have done a pretty good job with it. Don't we have a great crew? Stick around this is a very good forum for Liver disease info and support.

dansbrother, my doctor told me that the hep C test had only become available in '92.

You wrote, " I have read that people that have got Hepatitis C have none of the risk factors of Blood Borne Contact." I think what you may have read was that some people seem to have none of the usual risk factors for the disease. There seemingly are some people who have no idea how they got the hep C (but call me skeptical.) The majority of those with hep C, like myself, were contaminated by dirty needles/needle sharing in hard drug use. There are also a good portion who contracted it through transfusions, as blood was not being tested for hep C (much like it wasn't tested for HIV/AIDS prior to knowledge about it.) There are others who got it through using razors, toothbrushes, etc., that were used by those with hep C. For that to happen, the person using the appliance would have to have an open sore or nick themselves with the blade, etc. It is definitely a blood-borne disease. If a woman who has hep C has sex during her period, and a condom isn't used, she is putting her partner at risk. There have been babies born with hep C, contracted from the mother either through the placenta or in passage through the birth canal. It might be best to confine your reading to sites like the American Liver Foundation, that have solid, verifiable info. ;) Of course, this site usually also has excellent info.
