My husbands transplant team has prescribed 25,000 mg. of Vit. A per day and put him on Rocatrol, his primary doc. disagree's with that much vit. A, does anyone have any input on this?? I haven't picked up the vitamins yet as I am worried about this being toxic to him.  They have also prescribed Magnesium plus protein which I ordered.  He had a bone scan this morning and I don't know the result's of that yet.

It's spelled Rocaltrol (also known as Calcijex.)  From Mosby's Medical Drug reference:

Active in regulation of the absorption of calcium from the gastrointestinal tract and it's utililization in the body; increases renal tubular resorption of phosphate.

They are apparently concerned about low calcium and resultant metabolic bone disease.

Do you have a go-to person on the transplant team, such as a coordinator or P.A., that you could call and ask about the megadose Vit. A?
