cry  This is the first time i have done this so lets hope it works.  I went to the doctor today and my ALP was a bit high, 132 U/L.

I have hep c, is this something to worry about?  Will it get worse?  I just don't know what to think..  Can i get over this?  Would it be caused by me taking too many pain killers??  I dont drink.  I have stopped the pain killers to see if it will get any better, but i can't wait a few weeks wondering if this will get worse..

Please help!!

Hello Pink Butterfly and welcome to HealingWell. When were you diagnosed with Hep C? You don't get Hep C from too many pain killers. It's blood to blood transferred. Like sharing drug needles/straws or toothbrushes,towels with someone else that has the disease. Their blood has to touch an open wound on your body.

A few people's immune system can fight off Hep C. But most people have to get treatment for it. Hep C can destroy the liver but it normally takes a long time.

What does your doctor say? Are you being seen by a GI doctor?
You should see him regularly and follow his instructions. Because liver disease is no joke. To manage it you need eat and drink liver healthy. And there are lot of medicines out there that are bad for your liver. The hep C doesn't need any help in destroying your liver.

Welcome to the forum Pink Butterfly. I agree with everything Pink Grandma said. A person can live a long time with hep C as long as they take care of themself. That means absolutely no alcohol. Talk to your doctor about what medications are safe for you liver. My husband was diagnosed about 14 years ago with hep C and 2 years ago with cirrhosis. After he was diagnosed with hep C he continued to drink, which is why I think his health is in the shape it is now. Do your research. Having knowledge is having power.

PinkButterfly.  Well, we have a Pink Grandma and a Butterfly...so now we have a PinkButterfly.  Could get confusing!  smilewinkgrin    Anyway, welcome.

PG, I don't think PB was questioning how she got the hep C.  She was asking if pain killers could make it worse.

Pain killers, NSAIDs, etc., do no favors to the liver.  However, sometimes we have no choice but to take them for other issues.

PB, what do you mean by your ALP?  Did you mean AFP (alpha-fetoprotein?) 

Are you receiving hep C treatment?  Are you seeing a hepatologist for your hep C?
