Possible exposure to hep c?

I work in inner city schools and I sustained a work related injury. I sat down in a chair that a student had stuck a straight pin through. The pin stuck into my back for a second. The pin had been pushed through the plastic back of the chair and was sticking out the other side. (It was a clothes maker type pin)

I'm worried that this could transmit hep c, or hiv if the pin was dirty.

Based on your knowledge of the disease transmission what's the likelihood that I could get either hep c or hiv from this?

Hi, Jenna, and welcome to the forum. I would say that your risk is minimal; however, the best thing is to have a test for Hep B, Hep C, and HIV. As an inner-city school worker, you may have already been immunized for Hep B. If so, you don't need that test. It's a simple blood test for all 3, so be sure to give yourself some peace and have them done. If you have positive B or C results, come on back here for support and information.
