Does liver disease run in families?

  I recently heard from my sister-in-law that my neice was diagnosed with NASH.  I am trying to get her to take her to a hepatologist.

  I was not diagnosed with giant cell hepatitis until I was 20 and had  already developed cirhossis. 

I was diaggnosed with ESLD at age 47  in 2008 and am now 49  waiting for a transplant.  I hope my sister-in-law follows through.

My niece lost her appetite and has lost 40 lbs. during her freshman year at college.  So apparently, she was overweight.  I have not seen her for 5 years since she lives in Los Angeles.  Her monther'endocronologist diagnosed her with NASH.

I emailed my brother yesterday.  My niece has an appointment with their doctor on Thursday.

From him she will get a referral to hepatolgist.
